Toaster Too Small or Bread Too Big?

Maybe I’m just weird but does anyone else have a problem where the sliced bread put in a toaster doesn’t toast the top part “properly”?

It’s like either the bread slices are too big or the toaster isn’t deep enough. Or both.

Have tried a few different brands, cheap, and not so cheap and same problem.

I prefer to not have to cut off the untoasted bit or retoast the other end.

Can anyone suggest a deeper toaster?

Thanks

KP.

ps. Talk about first world problems

Mines like that so i insert my bread on the side and it toast's perfectly.

Both.. I usually just flip the bread half way.

I just wrote a script to do it for me…

  • Get a benchtop oven.

  • i buy chinese bread, it hardly fits in the toaster but they make it work

I have this problem and i have a really great solution.

You buy 2 toasters. You put the bread in one toaster. Then you turn the other toaster on and put it on top of the first toaster to toast the top section that's poking out.

    hacks.

That's a major yikes from me!

    Airfryer

    • You can toast bread in an airfryer?

      • Yep. One less appliance in the kitchen is a win

      • This
I make epic cheese and onion toasties with the air fryer and have just binned the toaster !

        • Open or closed toasties? Any tips? - gonna try this!

@bdl: Open toasties. Butter both sides before frying. Sprinkle cheese and onion mixed onto top. Air fry 200 for 5-6 mins.
            Omg the crunch 😅

I stop mine about 3/4 of the way through and then flip the bread upside down. Can be slightly annoying but always toasts perfectly.

  • I bought a cheap $15 Kmart toaster after my Breville died.

Just time I used it with largish bread, e.g. Helga's the bloody top bit was sticking out! haha

Surprisingly it still toasted fine.. maybe because heat rises.

Next time you go toaster shopping, bring a slice of bread to test.

Go into Kmart in your pyjamas and make yourself breakfast. Maybe try out one of their coffee machines while you're there. Make yourself at home.

    • I’ve thought about bringing in a slice of bread but the toasters in store aren’t connected to power and it’s hard to gauge the point where the internal thingymebob the bread sits on locks without power.

      • Just take them to the TV section and plug them in there :)

Breville lift and look toaster. It's very deep and also lets you lift up the toast to check how it's going without stopping the cooking time and needing to figure out how to restart it.

Either that or just go to a store and buy the tallest one.

    • Getting the tallest one seems logical, however in reality, based on my experience, the tallness appears to be aesthetic more than practical.

This. Have tried cheaper toasters in the past, and Breville 4-slice is the best value toaster for thick and long bread slices. Also works for baguettes.

  • My whole family have never bought one of those push down toasters, always used one of these types https://www.retravision.com.au/russell-hobbs-bake-expert-min…, and you can use it for cooking hot dogs, spam, pastries. Saves an appliance spot on the bench as well

If toast is a big part of your life you should buy a better toaster.

  • Such a deep philosophical question …..

  • I have a Bugatti Volo and standard-sized bread eg Helgas, Abbotts etc fit just fine.

  • I find it interesting that this is an issue when you look at the huge array of toasters you can buy - they are all basically the same though. Are modern toasters form over function?

  • Cut the slice of bread in half. One half goes in one slot, the other in the next. Problem solved. I’m assuming you’ll know which way I’m referring to when cutting it in half….

    • Suggest cutting into triangles.

When I was a kid, triangle sandwiches always tasted better than the conventional cut from side to side.
