    Just get bigger wheels.

  • Similar to the Costco one

I think costco is 2000kg which was recently on sale for $170

    • 1800kg vs OP 3000kg

        75mm vs 112mm 👍

A set of ramps (or a couple pieces of wood screwed together) would give you the extra height to make this jack work.

    • Probably best glued not screwed. Sharp points and tyres don't mix.

      • If you're using the right length of screw, and going from the top to the bottom, I fail to see any issue. As it stands, screws are generally stronger than glue (obviously there are exceptions).

          This.
Definately don't use glue - if the floor isn't perfectly level, the weight of the car will overpower the glue in a nanosecond as the wood flexes.

@Nom: So what you're saying is I shouldn't trust the No More Nails adverts?

            ;o)

        • I guess if one has a need for a trolley jack, they're handy enough to build what you're talking about correctly.

I just had this vision of screws in tyres from a badly knocked up ramps with screws protruding.

All the ramps available in the usual auto stores are utterly useless with "normal" cars - the front bumper will hit the ramp long before the tyre does - they're way too steep.

I use a pair of 10mm pine sleepers bolted side-by-side with an angled end to drive onto.
One of these contraptions in front of each front wheel, then just drive right on 👍
You can stack them if you need more height, but you'll need to make the lower level pretty long so that you can drive onto it without the bumper smashing into the upper level.

gktech low profile ramps are the way to go if someone doesnt want to DIY one

I have this jack and it's great. Love the height it can go to, low profile, solid build. Makes the cheaper ones feel like toys.

Yes for low cars you'll need to first drive onto something - whether low ramps or wood sleeper to get the bit of extra height before using the jack.

  • Costco 2000kg (lowest profile and doesn't weigh a fat mofo, 36kg) > Repco 3000kg (height higher than costco, but still lower than SCA, 45kg) > SCA 3000kg (42kg)

I had a look at all 3 recently, and if you're not lifting a truck then you actually don't need 3000kg. I ended up getting the costco arcan one and it lifts like butter and lowers oh so gently like the car is on a cloud. All 3 have double hydraulic pumps and have great lifting heights.

My neighbour has the SCA 3000kg and he needs to drive his car onto wood blocks before being able jack his car up. Also we've found the make and finish is just better on the arcan ones, and mine is a bit easier to manoeuvre around in and out of the garage.

All 3 places will help you load the jack into your car on pickup.

Whatever you get, don't get those little toy jacks with a single piston like the SCA low profile 1600kg. Struggles to lift near max height and slams one side of your vehicle down even with incremental release. From the terrible sounds I heard, pretty sure I bent my chassis, just not worth saving those few bucks on a single piston jack.

    • Yep got the arcann one. Excellent, the twin piston is so much better too.

Since you never jack all 4 wheels off the ground at once, 2000kg is surely enough for pretty much anything non commercial

      • Yeah, the jack is only ever going to see half your vehicle weight at the most. 2000Kg is enough for almost anything.

get a low ramp plus the jack. problem solved

I used the cheap repco jack with some ramps. Just fits under my lowered Lexus. Might get this or the Costco one.
    Thanks OP
