Waited for at least half a year to see it dip below $150.
From my research, it's one of the best value mics for streaming. Commonly used for recording music as well.
Perhaps the lowest price so far.

RODE NT-USB Mic also comes with a little stand and a pop filter.

This or should I wait for Shure MV7 when it’s on discount?

    • +2

what do you plan to use it for?

    • do you know your use case? Those are two different mics, Dynamic (Shure) vs Condenser (RODE)

Also, I think the only time the Shure MV7 ever went on a decent sale was on Prime Day, so you might be waiting a while longer.

    • Just went all out and got the Mv7 through Amazon yesterday - the quality is pretty great. Had the blue yeti before it.

If you’re going to use condenser it’s going to pick up more ambient noise but can record whatever is in front of it - instruments etc too. Even with the cardioid pattern it picks up quite a lot of environmental noise - it’s very sensitive.

Dynamic mics are good for vocals or for pointing them towards instruments. They reject a lot more noise. This makes them great for spoken word, singing, podcasts etc.

I’m only using it for MS Teams (for now) but really wanted to try it out as it’s a broadcast quality mic! Maybe I’ll try recording some stuff!

Oh damn this is a good price.

  • This is great price!

  • How does this compare to the HyperX Quadcast?

    • would suggest looking at podcastage's comparison. imo, rode nt usb sounds better than quadcast in all aspects, just looks less cool.

Running out of things to invent and commercialise

    • +4

      it's… a microphone

      • +1

ikr, Rode sure as heck didn't invent the microphone, they just make damn good ones

  • +1

Good price, I wish Rode had an XLR condenser mic somewhere around this price point too.

Also wow, Linus has come a long way

    • +1

Is his voice still annoying and whiny sounding?

      • +1

I think just like Jacky Chan, he puts it on

        • +2

He don't want no trouble too.

      • not with this mic it isn't.

  • +3

RODENT usb? Rats, I don't have that plug.

    • +2

Not sure if that's a joke or not, but that is legitimately why they are called Rode.

    • I also got trapped by this

    • +2

modified microphone was an immediate success, with sales likened to taking off like "a rat up a drainpipe".[by whom?] This comment led to the microphone being unofficially called the 'RODENT-1', which was later changed to the RØDE NT1,

      From Wikipedia, confirms the connection.

  • Nice…. thanks OP.

    Ordered one.

  • Excellent price. I have had one of these for a few years and been very happy with it for podcasts, presenting and teaching online, picking up clear audio from a room full of students etc.

  • Solid price.

  • The Mini version has somewhat better specs and is cheaper, but maybe not as friendly a shape as this model

    • +1

Better specs, but in side by side comparisons I watched on YouTube, the non-mini sounds better IMO: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=T5x2mdVYvSE&t=514s

      • +1

Same experiences. I haven't seen any reviews that show the mini usb outperforming nt usb. However, mini usb is also at a good price atm, around $110 on Amazon

  • I have this Mic and its great .. makes me sound like John Laws :) for this price you wont regret it … although id recommend a boom arm over a desk mount any day…

    • agreed,
the desk mount is useless you are really really really short.

  • +3

Anyone with an existing XLR interface can pick up an NT1A for ~$100 secondhand.

    • That is good stuff 👏

  • +2

i got the rode nt mini when it was on sale, and its awesome with the built in pop filter.

    • .. and has USB-C

  • Better off with the NT-USB Mini that has a simple USB-C connection.

  • Back to $179 sadly…

    • Not sad .. doesn't have USB-C .. therefore pass

  • +2

Will this integrate easily into my OnlyFans account?

    • Send me a link to confirm if it will work with your specific OF acc…

  • How is this compared to the new rode videomic ii for teleconferencing? Engadget reviewer seems to prefer the videomic ii

  • This is a great price, I earlier bought the Rode NT Mini for this price, and you can't go wrong with Rode. With stand and Pop filter, you really have a great mic here. Wish I had waited a bit more.

  • Had a second look at the title as I thought I read RODENT

    • That's not accidental. Rode are an Aussie company, and they were taking the piss when they came up with that.

  • Probably a dumb question, but got this and it seems really quiet?

    • You probably need to turn the gain on your computer up. On Windows go to Settings -> System -> Sound -> Device properties under the Input section (assuming the mic is selected), then drag the volume (gain) bar up

      • Already at 100%. Will have a play around.

  • Where do I find the serial number to register for warranty?
