Eufy Warranty after 12 months?

Anyone dealt with Eufy warranty stuff after 12 months?

I purchased a Eufy Cam for $200 from Bing Lee on Nov 2020. It worked pretty good until 2 weeks ago we had some heavy rain and whole unit is now filled with water, I am not the only one having this issue I googled it and found plenty of posts with similar issues.

I contacted Bing Lee and they said it’s out if 12 months warranty period so can’t help, contact Eufy. Been emailing Eufy back and forth for a week now and they’re just giving BS replies and told me to go back to Bing Lee for help.

I would expect for a product like that to surely last more than 13 months, do I have any leg to stand on in terms on consumer rights?

Edit: Alrighty had yet another reply from Eufy asking to contact Bing Lee AGAIN and after contacting Bing Lee AGAIN manager said contact Eufy. Doesn’t matter how this happened, customer service is appalling from both sides. I’ll just take my loss and will be filing an online complaint, not that I am expecting anything out of it but it’s ridiculous for both big companies to act like this.

Edit2: Had electrician come over and take the lights off , good news is no sign if any water on roof where light was mounted(I was worried more about damage to house then lights after reading comments). When he took the main fitting where wire was coming through off it was all dusty and had no sign of water. Water somehow got in in between the part that gets mounted on roof and then light gets mounted to that. So def either faulty seal or something. It was the first windy/heavy rain we had since I had this light.

Doesn’t really matter anymore if they replace it or not but will buy a different brand in future.

  • Hi,

There are different models of Eufy Cam some of them say "Weatherproof: Yes

    Have a look at https://www.accesscanberra.act.gov.au/s/article/make-a-compl…

    • Yeah this one is rated as IP65

  • +5

Consumer rights apply regardless of the manufacturer's warranty and state that the product should last a "reasonable amount of time" and Bing Lee is also responsible as the vendor and can't refer you to the manufacturer.

As such I would say that you shouldn't expect a camera to last 13 months and that you'd have a case with Bing Lee, however since it's filled with water that may change the whole thing. I'm unsure about what the product is designed for VS what happened, but if you think it should not have happened bases on the product specifications / description keep pressing with Bing Lee.

Looking at the photos I find it weird that it filled with water considering it seems to be undercover.

    • I’ll have a chat to them, this unit is listed as IP65, thank you

Make sure you read up on what this means as it does NOT mean waterproof!!!

        • +1

NOT waterproof but IP65 = Water resistant. “Protected against water jets from any angle” according to google. So should be able to survive rain under eave with those ratings.

          • @RobotWizard: Try again:
5 === Protection against low-pressure jets (6.3 mm) of directed water from any angle (limited ingress permitted with no harmful effects).

            • +1

@AndyC1: Now read back what you wrote, if it’s supposed to survive water jets it should be able to survive rain…

              • @RobotWizard: So what was the heavy rain pressure and how long was it for?

                • @AndyC1: Can’t tell you how heavy the rain was but it lasted only 5ish minutes but wind was so strong that it took trees down all over neighbourhood.

Did it get hosed or something? Seems very well protected that far back on the eaves…

    • Didn’t get hosed off but had some crazy rain plus wind 2 weeks ago Which is what caused the issue

      • I was going to say with those holes in the ceiling nearby, hosing is probably not a fantastic idea.
Though as the others have said water most likely came from back of fitting. Probably a good idea to get that assessed. Last thing you want is a mouldy / wet ceiling.

        • Yeah I have to get those holes fixed, this area went through couple of light fixture replacements before I bought the place.

      • Not covered as it's only IP65.

That’s the floodlight, it’s ip65 rated. Mines outside with no protection mounted on top of the garage door and no issues so far.

  • Looks like a quality unit…

    The unit is incorrectly installed.

Looks like you got water in your eaves from the heavy rain, and the water came into the back of the unit where the wires are connected. I suspect this is no fault of the unit and you need to clean your gutters and check your down pipes.

^ this. flooded from the top

    • This unit is originally designed to be mounted on wall outside with IP65 rating and unit is very well sealed from top area as well from memory but you could be correct, I need to call electrician to take it off and inspect it but was avoiding doing that twice :(

      • If water is pooling in the roof cavity I'm surprised the RCD didnt trip.

        • +1

Lots of light circuits don't have RCD on them.

          • @JimmyF: actually yes thats a fair call. Still dangerous though especially if junctions havent been sealed.

    • Have a look at edit 2. No sign of any water whatsoever in eaves and on roof :)

  • I would expect for a product like that to surely last more than 13 months, do I have any leg to stand on in terms on consumer rights?

While I agree they should last longer than 13 months, I would be more concerned how it got so much water in it being under a eave! It is well protected from the weather.

As posters above have said, your eaves might be flooding and the water is coming in via the holes/power cable into the device. If this is the case, then it isn't really Eufy fault.

    • Wind was pretty bad with rain, we talking wind like many trees were down and many neighbours had their backyard furnitures on lawn kind of wind

      • +2

Even so, still not Eufy fault if your eaves flooded and water came in the back of unit like it appears it has. There is a LOT of water in that unit.

You might need to look at doing some work around keeping water out of the eave areas. We had wild wind and trees down too not long ago, including trees down over the road etc, but my eaves didn't flood.

        • It’s still an guess that water might’ve came through there, there is no proof of that yet until I get electrician in and regardless IP65 rating product should be able to take jet water pressure from ANY angle. I doubt it this got exposed to anything more than that being in the location it is. It’s outdoor bloody accessory and is supposed to hold up in situations like this.

          • @RobotWizard:

regardless IP65 rating product should be able to take jet water pressure from ANY angle

Yes… any angle when mounted correctly…..Looking at all the pictures on the website etc, this is meant to be mounted flat against a wall.

Which I think is the issue here, water has entered from the hole above the unit and hasn't been able to drain out, so its filled up from the inside out.

IP65 doesn't cover this type of water ingress.

            • @JimmyF: Yep, and when I've had electricians mount outside lights they seal them with silicon to the wall. That isn't going to help if the water is coming from behind and I'm not sure they're designed for that.

  • It cant believe it filled up like that from rain hitting it given its position. I'd conclude it's been exposed to inappropriate conditions.

    • Not the only one, google “Eufy Water” and you’ll see plenty of their products with same issues except most of them were still under 12 months old.

  • Kinda weird eufy would tell you to go back to bing lee… like BL would have to go back to eufy for warranty anyway, it’s needlessly complicating the issue. Pretty average of Eufy.
