Which Tool for Sharpening Coles Masterchef Knife

Hi,
Just got one large cook's knife (19cm) from coles masterchef credit. Hopefully use as a second knife to my global santoku knife.

My question are
Is the minosharp 2 (which i own for the global knife) alright to use?
I guess i would use the bottom of ceramic bowl if minosharp 2 is not ideal?

Thanks.

    I'd use a knife sharpener

  • In with:
    "That's not a knife… THAT's a knife."

  • Don't waste money on minisharp, at the end of day you need to buy Whetstone(Made in Japan)

    • shapton.

You could try one of these from Bunnings.

Use a whetstone. But chances are, that was one of the free knives you got from some ticket/points promotion and will be made out of an accordingly cheap metal for the blade. It might sharpen, but won’t stay sharp for any length of time.

If you want something that sharpens well and stays sharp, you need high carbon steel forged knife, not some shitty free stainless punched out on a press job.

Yeah but why would you spend 100x the value of the knife on a sharpener!?

      • Time is money, so the quicker the better.

Because you can use it more than once and on more than one knife?

It’s like saying, why spend $50 on hair clippers when a haircut is only $20.

        • Except hair clippers are actually practical for clipping hair! And $50 is a cheap-ish set…

I assume my down-voter has missed that you're suggesting a fairly expensive tool designed to chop through concrete slabs and train rails. A sense of humour is in short supply here!

AFAIK Global knives, which are good quality steel, are sharpened 10-15 degrees, while the cheaper Masterchef knife should be sharpened at 15-20 degrees and will need sharpening on a more regular basis as they are much lower quality, mass produced, products.

  • grab a king combo stone and be done with it.

  • garbage bin, then buy a set of global knives

  • i use a Sharpal all in one sharpener for my Coles MC knives. works a treat. can pick one up on amazon for around $25.
