Connect SmartHome Wireless Garage Door Opener - on Roller Door

I bought one of these - https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/connect-smart-remote-gara…

The instructions have it for a garage door that rolls overhead rather than a traditional door that rolls up for the sensor location.

https://www.connectsmarthome.com.au/manual/home/Manual%20-%20CSH-GRGDROPN%20-%20with%20Compatibility%20List%20(FINAL).pdf

Has anyone configured this to be for a traditional door?

Just to clarify, by "traditional" you mean you have a Roller door, not a Sectional/Panel or Tilt? See here for door types.

From the instructions it looks like it only works with the Sectional/Panel or Tilt. However, the sensor is only looking to confirm it's orientation so it can tell you whether the door is open or closed.

If you have a Roller door and you can place the sensor where it comes to rest horizontal with the door open, it should work. Sadly I reckon this will be on the outside of the door rather than the inside otherwise it will likely get squashed as the door rolls up.

      Correct

I think going on the outside sounds like a plan. Inside will bugger the sensor and it isn't exactly a thin sensor.

for a garage door that rolls up, place the sensor at the bottom of the roller door, and runn the wire up the outside of the track. its just a magnet,

basically so when the door is cracked open, the sensors are not together.

Sorry i dont have the knowledge to insert a ms paint

It is a wireless sensor, so no need for wires. It does it based on a balance sensor from what I can understand.

      • Ah ok, my one wasn't wireless..

  • This type doesn't work for roller doors, only tilt doors.

Basically the wireless sensor has a tilt sensor which senses which way gravity is pointing. When you mount to the inside of a roller door it gets in the way of the rolling movement.

A reed switch sensor works way better for a roller-type door.

You could try mounting it on the end of the roller door (the bit closest to floor) however depending on the orientation of that when it's fully rolled up it may/may not work.

I just uses these with magnet near floor as per post above, ordered one 6th jan and it was shipped from au (!) and i received it yesterday. Uses Tuya app (which I believe the Connect Smart Home device you are using also uses) https://www.aliexpress.com/item/32997953761.html

It isn't really designed for it, but I have been able to get it working.

Need to mount it probably about 2 feet off the ground - https://www.dropbox.com/s/1ukpzn85e0egc63/2022-01-19%2016.50…

Overall, I got it working. Might not be 100% ideal but I've got it working. Images at:

My model wasn't "supported" but I looked up the wiring diagram for my model motor and found which terminals would normally take the button remote and got it working correctly.

    Great unit.
