Belong is Removing $5 Credit for nbn

I received an email today from Belong saying they’re going to remove the $5 credit for existing nbn customers. Did anyone else receive this email?

It was titled “Your 12 months of $5 monthly credits ends soon” - I’ve been a customer for over 8 years and pretty sure I’ve had the credit the whole time.

  • What credit is this ? Monthly bill ?

Yeah on the monthly bill. It was originally for being on a 12 month contract but I’ve been getting it ever since.

  • I got it too! Been with them for about 4 years.
I read it that we’ll still stay on the grandfathered plan but without the $5 discount. Hmm time to start looking at new plans.

    • Not quiet even new customers can get the $60 plan so we don’t even get the benefit of a grandfathered plan. Don’t think there is a better deal out there unfortunately.

The one we had included up to 35Mbps, new standard only offers 25Mbps. For $60 there’s a few deals that offer 55Mbps but you have to change providers every 6 months. That’s what I liked about this old plan, reasonable speed and price and I didn’t have to keep moving.

        • Oh from what I was told I was always on the 25Mbpsplan but speed would often be over 30Mbps. Yeah that is a pain changing providers I might just keep it on this plan.

  • Is it for NBN ?

  • I didn’t receive an email about this, but I logged into my account and saw this message:

If you have an existing monthly credit attached to your current plan, this will no longer be available on the new plan you change to.

When I look at other plans, the $5 monthly credit is not being applied, so it sounds like they’re killing off the discount as soon as your current 12 month contract ends.

    • Yeah sounds like it although I didn’t even know I was on another 12 month plan.

  • Drop your current plan at the end of the month and apply again a new plan on partners name for Free First Month + $80 Sim Card .. better than $5 credit per month deal.

    • That's all well and good if this thread was in regards to Belong Mobile.

This thread is actually in regards to Belong NBN.

Ooof this sucks. Moving for 6months before returning home, going to cost an extra $5 a month AND get slower internet.

Yup I got it about mid Dec saying it was ending end of Jan, so I've switched to Tangerine and will start churning. Was happy to stay 30/$55 but oh well.

Yep I got the same email last week to say the $5 credit will be removed from 1 March 22. I have been with them for 2 years.

  • For what it’s worth, was able to prepay my March bill in the app for $55. (Despite receiving this email)

    • They autobilled the extra $5 haha

It is not worth it to stay with them, you should move out, they became one of the worst ever company to deal with and overpriced now.

        • Considering the More CBA offer (non targeted) but I am on the old Starter Tier and a speed test shows 43.4 down/18.7 up.

Customer service appears to be pretty bad with most budget providers.

          • @JordanM: $60/m for 30NBN is not budget/cheap! I got the non targeted CBA More offer for $54 for 50NBN fixed price for 2 years (need award credit card). Many other good providers charge $55 for 6 months. My speed with Belong was 30-35 (used to be higher a year ago ~40, but they slowed it down). When Belong cut my connection mid month, they refused to refund me the pro rata remining month as well.

            • @huntabargain: As I said at present though my Belong $60 plan is syncing at 43. So it’s tempting to stay if it will remain like that ongoing rather than a 12m $54 promo.

  • I am on the grandfathered $55 p/m for 30 speed, on 12 month contract that expired mid Dec 2021, today I received email from Belong state that your internet has been disconnected as I cancelled service and moved to another provider. I never cancelled or moved to another provider. Is Belong making things up to kill the old plan? I tried to call them but no phone support these days only by logging a support from internet. Anyone come across this situation? I am waiting from them to get back to me, but very annoyed.

    • Is Belong making things up to kill the old plan?

I don’t think it is anything as sinister as that. My 12 month contract expired last month, but my payment for March is expected to be $55 too.

The reason my 12 month contract actually started in Jan 2021 was that I had a new neighbour move in, but when they were setting up a new NBN connection with a different ISP, somehow my address was used (instead of their address), so a new NBN connection was set up at my address, and the default is to port over any existing NBN connection at that address to the new ISP. That meant that my Belong NBN contract was terminated early and I had to pay an early termination charge.

When I went to Belong and complained about this, the reaction from the Belong representative over the phone made it seem like this is something that happens from time to time at Belong due to a system error. (Btw, I had to email them to initiate a service request, but because of the severity of the request, I got a call back from someone not long after raising the request.)

      • That makes sense as my neighbour had some technician doing new NBN connection for him few days ago, I logged support call to Belong but did not receive any answer yet. I also called their number to lodge complain and still waiting for someone to get back to me. I am just worried that I don't have to reconnect with them to the new plans which is way more expensive than my $55 plan. BTW, did they restore your connection to the same price/speed?

        • When Belong reconnected me, they reconnected me to the $60/month 30 Mbps option (i.e. the month-to-month option). Belong also said my old 12 month contract was terminated, so if I wanted to be on a 12 month contract again, I would have to sign up myself again. This was back when the $55/month 30 Mbps contract option was still available, so I simply signed up to a new 12 month contract in Jan 2021.

My guess is that you cannot go back to the 30 Mbps plan, as your connection (and contract) was terminated, and the 30 Mbps plan is only available to people who have remained connected since Aug 2021. My guess is that if you are to sign up to a new Belong plan, you’ll be pushed onto the newer (and more expensive) plans if you want to remain with them. You may be able to eek out a compromise from Belong (e.g. a $20 credit or something like that), but my guess is that Belong won’t be too interested in helping in that way, especially since it seems like the termination of your contact was probably caused by a third-party.

          • @WookieMonster: Thanks for your reply. I guess if they refuse to restore the same condition would be time to move on to new provider, Adios Belong :) (There is Targeted offer from More Telecom through CBA to get 30% for 2 years, so would be under $55 for the 50NBN). Funny enough, I still have internet and noticed that my speed has increased from 35 to +50, so not sure what is happening!
EDIT: Can you know which ISP provider I am currently connected to?

Finally bit the bullet as price increase as of tomorrow. Moved over to superloop 50/20 at $54.95 a month for 6 months. Took less than 10 min to change over. Didn’t have to make any changes to router either. Impressed how painless the process was. Did a speed test and getting 53/19.
