  • What's the weight for medium frame?

  • I bought one a couple of months ago in blue for an ebike conversion, i love it

    • Been looking for a nice option to do a conversion myself. Are the brakes on these up to the task of the conversion? (Keen on 1000W….)

      Cheers.

Definitely, i was particularly looking for something entry level with decent hydraulics and they seem up to the task. One thing on this base model Roam though is the Tourney rear derailleur is a bit of a piece of crap so in hindsight maybe the Roam 3 with the Acera derailleur may have been a better buy, but I bought/built mine for easy commuting and nothing serious so it's not a huge deal.

I put a 750w motor in mine. Some more discussion in this OzB thread.

        • Thanks mate

  • Didn't expect Giant make economical bikes :)

Eh? That is how they became the number one brand. For decades, they have been known for value.

edit: I see what you mean, Shimano Tourney parts. But it does have a cassette (not freewheel) and double-wall rims, so not garbage.

      • It's not bad for the price at all - given the hydraulic discs (albeit Tektro). The good thing with flat bar is the separation of shifter & brake means its relatively cheap to upgrade from the Tourney.

Wish it had a rigid fork instead.

      • Never said Giant bike are garbage, on the contrary they're excellent bikes just didn't expect that they have economical bikes :)

  • Anyone find any good road bike deals in small/medium size anywhere recently? :(

      Not since Covid.

    • New, no. The last good deal I spotted was Boxing Day 2020. This yr there was no such BD sale, and on top of that price hikes.

Used, yes - last week I saw a relatively new (I'd guess ~2015) Scott hybrid with hydraulic disc listed for $80 on FB Marketplace. It was gone in 15mins. But still means possible if you are lucky or patient.

And to add - for drop bar, for $300~$500 there are plenty of decent branded rim brake offerings Sora~105 circa 2015 models floating on FB. Everyone seems to be wanting to dump rim brakes.

Or this - flat bar, Deore, hydraulic disc, Alexrims $375 https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/352382956312646

Sure discs are nice, I have them on the MTB. But on a road bike it is a very incremental gain over rim brakes. So bargains to be had on very nice 105 rim-brake bikes. Especially if you can cope with 10-speed instead of 11 :-)
