Decent Harness Recommendations (Dog) - Pref front-clip?

Lots of reviews online are for American-based brands. Keen on hearing what others here have purchased and liked.

I would ask your racing peers.

Start as you mean to continue.

A properly fitted slip collar controls but does not hurt.

No reputable dog training school will let you use anything else.

      Agree.
I frequently see dogs being walked in harnesses, and they are virtually uncontrollable.
A lot of breeds love to pull against harnesses - think of huskies and sledges.
I suppose some owners like having a wild animal that rears up at everyone that passes.
But if you just want to go for a walk with your dog, consider using a halti head collar. These fit around the neck and nose, and when the dog tries to pull, its head is pulled down, so they don't get that satisfying feeling from pulling against the lead.

I believe that's the usefulness of using a front-clip harness temporarily (that's why more expensive brands off a front and back clip). The front clip pulls them to face you, The idea is that they get annoyed by it and give up + do that with normal leash training exercises and it can be quite beneficial.

I use the Ezydog Convert harness for my work dogs.

  • Puppia and Rogz are two brands that I bought from before and very happy with. But I think most of their harnesses are not front clip.

I recently got a Carhartt Training Harness from Amazon for my dog. It has both front and back clip, extremely well-made with pads supporting the dog's joint. They are a bit pricey though.

  • The EzyDog brand are pretty good.

Google Dog Friendly Co. They're a local outfit where you can also buy velco name tags to stick on their dog harnesses.

I'd also personally avoid Fuzzyard. My skinny Shih-tzu bitch always managed to slip out of hers until she put on a bit more weight.

  • The Black Dog Balance Harness is a great product by an Australian company. Excellent quality.

We went with the 2 Hounds Design Freedom No Pull Dog Harness with Leash. It has back and front clips that are used at the same time.

Take your hound to your local pet stock or petbarn and they will in my experience find the harness that fits your dog and needs best. For one of our dogs that was one of the most expensive and for the other it was one of the cheapest.

  • Front pull harness are a god send for large dogs . I got mine off ebay cheaply- di-dog brand Works very well, my dog is walked 2/3 times a day. Keeps it on for tumbles with other dogs in the park. Harness is washing machine suitable. 3 years still going strong if it ever breaks cheap to replace.. can't go wrong

  • My little terrier becomes a sled dog with a back clip harness but his harnesses that we mostly use are from Stylish Hound (NSW based company). The front attachments are a god send. He still pulls but he’s not a sled dog choking himself with the back clip. He knows when it’s clipped to the back and starts pulling.
