  • awesome rice cookers.

  • I can only comment on Sydney prices.. 5.5 cup rice cooker (smallest rice cooker I could find, no special features like delay start, etc..) can be bought in Sydney Asian supermarkets for about $110-120.

    Hope that helps.

    • Are you 100% sure it's the authentic Japanese "Tiger"? There is also a "Tiger" clone made in China that copies the look. Box says Japan, but actual product is made in China. See here- http://www.alibaba.com/product-gs/468197686/tiger_rice_cooke…
Cheapest I've seen the authentic Tiger in Melbourne is $175 (5.5 cup) - mostly around $195 in Asian groceries/markets. So if it's a genuine one you've seen for $110 in Sydney, that's a huge difference.

      • Tiger does have an entry level rice cooker that is not "Made in Japan" - I've seen it and the decal on the rice cooker's control panel is clearly missing the "Made in Japan" text.

Tiger has not done anything to mislead their customers with this entry level model. All the Tiger rice cookers that are actually manufactured in Japan bear the "Made in Japan" text on the control panel.

  • Ya. I went to a very 'Asian' area and all their prices were the same(with haggling) and they were made in Japan.

  • In Melbourne, you can find the Tiger rice cooker from a Japanese store called Suzuran near the corner of Barkers Road and Burke Road in Camberwell.

You can also find Tiger ricecookers in Springvale in a store called Success Hardware & Kitchenware, located at Shop G13 – 15. 46 – 58 Buckingham Ave Springvale Plaza Shopping Centre, Springvale ph:(03) 9574 2799

But the model that you'll find in either stores is the JBA-T10A (5.5 cup) or JBA-T18A (10 cup). These rice cookers are definitely Made in Japan.

As for the JNP-1000 model, you can find it in Box Hill in one of the stores that is on Carrington Street. Saw it there last week! :-) Approx $220 for the 1.8 litre (10 cup) model.

One final place where you can buy Tiger rice cookers is via eBay - just search for "Tiger rice cooker" and you'll see the JBA-T10A, JBA-T18A and the JNP-1000 in both 5.5 and 10 cup models.

    • I'm just going to necro-post here for those who stumble upon this page as I did:

This information is good. The shop mentioned in Springvale has the 5.5 cup model for $240 and the 10 cup for (from memory) $270. The Camberwell shop didn't have them as of April 2013, so check in Springvale first.

  • Sorry to necro an old thread but are there fake/counterfeit Tiger rice cookers on eBay?

  • +1

whats the difference between this and your $20 cooker from target?

    • +1

In my experience. The rice is soft and stays moist for longer. All my previous rice cookers leaves the rice dry and stale if it's left over night (if you don't eat all of it and keeps it for next day).

If you make sushi or prepares lunch/food for the day ahead, that's where the difference lies.

The quality is also very different in terms of build, it has not failed me in the last 3 years (other rice cooker had failed displays, buttons etc). The top removable metal inner lid doesn't get dirty and doesn't require constant washing. Even the spatula that came with the Tiger Rice cooker is amazing, designed for non-stick and is better than my separately-purchased rice spatulas.

And the cooking put itself is much much easier to clean vs the cheap one. The non-stick material has not shown a scratch after all these years usage.

  • Try Newtone Betta Electrical in Footscray or Springvale. I'm sure I have seen them there.

  • Maybe off topic, I heard Costco is selling Toshiba rice cookers close to the quality of Tiger for $150
I was looking for Tiger too but it seems way over priced here in Aus and you cant really tell if its real or counterfeit so I'm considering Costco and if I'm not happy I can return it back to them.
