Can I Set up Audio Coming from Rear Speakers Only? Suggestions?

My TV is a few meters away from the sofa and when the kids are sleeping the volume is down and very hard to listen - especially with the noise from the street.

I was thinking to buy some rear speakers so we are closer to the speakers and able to listen something.

1st question: if I buy a surrounding system (soundbar + 2 rear speakers) can I set up the audio to come only from the rear?

I have a Samsung soundbar K360 with wireless subwoofer but I can’t find any rear speakers for this model - looks like it’s too old.

2nd question: is there rear speakers I could use with my current bar? If not, what are your suggestions for a new sound system (bar + speakers and maybe sub)?

    Headphones

    • This.

Taotronics and others do 3.5mm aux in Bluetooth adapters then just use any Bluetooth headphone/headset.

      Definitely headphones!

You can plug any cheap old speakers into your TVs 3.5mm jack. I don't think you can just turn off the internal speakers in a sound bar.

  • If I buy a sonos beam + two rear speakers, can I change the audio to come only from the rear speakers?

A couple of Bluetooth speakers would do the trick. Just mute the sound bar and listen through the speakers. Like others said Bluetooth adapter or maybe the tv has Bluetooth already.

    • Any suggestions? Which Bluetooth speakers would you recommend? TV has Bluetooth

If the rear speakers are setup correctly for "surround sound", then the sound that is coming out of them should not be the same as the sound coming from the soundbar at the front.

For example, when someone's talking in the foreground, most of the voice should only come from the front speaker.

A pair of comfortable headphones would probably be your best bet.

    • That makes sense. Can the bar be turned off so audio only comes from the rear? Would that work?

Headphones is a good idea for a movie but not for the day to day.

      • I don't have a definite answer for all of them but logically, the rear speakers use the front bar as the driver so it would need to be on

I know it definitely doesn't work on mine (Bose SB700). I can change the volume, but it's still the "back" surround sound.

Thank god we taught ours that sound was OK when they were babies. Can now freely watch a movie through the surround sound and they still sleep

Option1: You could add Bluetooth speakers such Edifier R1280DB (or any other Bluetooth speaker) and switch TV's audio output from soundbar to Edifiers. With this setup you can only have either the soundbar or the Edifier speaker producing sound (not both).

Option 2: Add SWA-8000S Wireless Speaker Kit to your HW-K360 Soundbar if you want surround sound but I am unsure if you can limit sound output to just the wireless rear speakers easily, if at all possible.

    • Thanks mate. It looks like SWA-8000S has been discontinued, I can’t find it anywhere, and as far as I can see the newer models are not compatible.
