Hi all,
Like many others, I was lured into a qantas and amex credit card programs for the Qantas points + free lounge accesses and other perks. That that about one year is passed and it's time to renew the cards, I would like to cancel both to avoid further annual fees.
Howver, I did not make use of the passes for either program yet. Am I going to lose the lounge passes if I cancel the cards before using them?
(I am aware that passes will expire after one year)

I don't know the answer. My best guess is that NO you will not lose them as they should be attached to your Qantas FF number.
Closing your CC account will not remove the passes from your QFF complimentary invitations pool. So you can use them later before their expiry date.
thanks: this is regardless to the CC program, is that right? I have 2 Amex lounge + 2 Qantas Lounge with amex and 2 Qantas lounge with Qantas platinum.
None has been claimed yet, and I reckon only Qantas Platinum was provided through a PDF file. I can not locate the Amex invites. Should I ask for codes or something before actioning the closing?
If your Qantas lounge passes are digital and attached to your Qantas account (or physical and in your posession), they won't be removed when you close your Amex.
If you haven't yet claimed the lounge passes within Amex and linking to your Qantas account or requesting them via mail (depending on the card), you will need to do so before closing your account.
if your lounge passes are in your QFF account they can't take them back

If you go to close it (depending on how good of a customer you are) they will cancel it and then "reinstate" it for a lot of bonus points.
This way they get around the laws because technically your account is closed.
We got 200,000 rewards points on our platinum charge when cancelling due to "covid". It's high risk but high reward. Either way you get 30 days to use them (your existing reward points) if they don't offer anything and you can always reinstate it on your own by calling back within that time.
To use the Amex passes you need to show your Amex card at entry to the lounge. Your Amex card is technically your 2 x passes. They scan your card to ensure it’s valid.
You will still get to keep your Qantas lounge passes though

Close card and They will send you packing like the bouncers did when I was a young underage whipper snap trying to get into a nightclub “Not tonight son, you’re not coming in…”
