  • Pretty interested on people's experience with this.
    Specs seem pretty impressive
Have been waiting for a good price on the QN85A but could be persuaded.

I just got my hands on the 55" c825 the other day as a bedroom TV, and its been great for the price. Main selling point for me was the fact that its running android. I was hoping i could avoid buying a second Shield, and sure enough its running Kodi flawlessly, so i saved myself roughly $250 right there. The picture quality is amazing for what I paid (Good Guys reduced it down to $1185 on singles day sale a month after I ordered it….Yes it took 3 months to finally get my hands on one). Overall, the picture quality isnt as good as my 2016 Sony X94D, but it does supposedly support 120hz 4k and Dolby Vision HDR while the sony does not. Sound craps over the sony and even my LG CX monitor. This is a good thing if u have no intention of buying a soundbar or home theatre setup, but pretty pointless otherwise.
There are a few reviews I found when i was trying to decide if i wanted it, but they pretty much all read more like advertisements rather than true reviews..

Anyway, overall Im happy with it, but i really wasnt hoping for much more than a decent cheap android tv :)

      • Cheers for that. Ye definitely would prefer android as I use the streaming services (even tho they re compatible with Samsung's software).

I seen a few complaints about the viewing angles. Do you have that issue?

        • +1

Viewing angles are not the best. It may be an issue for you if you cant sit directly front on. The colours start to look a little washed out.
I find the colours to be too bright/saturated anyway, even with the picture mode set to Movie.

One issue im having though is with bluetooth headphones. each night I am having an issue where audio is going out of sync and starts to skip. Unpairing/Re-pairing solves this, but then the problem returns the next day. This could be my cheap shitty JBL headphones at fault and not the TV. I will have to try a different brand to see if they also have this issue.

          • @DanielP2: Oh the viewing angle is a deal breaker. I have a wide room so will stick with the Samsung.
            Thanks for your help 👍

      • Have you had any issues as listed here.

        https://www.reddit.com/r/tcltvs/comments/pydb5n/known_issues…

        120Hz/4k random flickering and Blackscreens

        Inverse ghosting at VRR/60Hz

        Google Assistant doesn’t work

        ColorBanding issues

        Random reboot of the TV

        Android Tv is very unstable

        • +1

Sorry, Im unable to answer basically any of this. Im not using 4k 120hz on this tv. No gaming console/pc hooked up to it, so no VRR either. I dont use google assistant on anything, I havent had it for long enough to notice any random reboots. Android TV has given me plenty of issues over the years. It was a complete shitshow on the Sony, and while the Shield has been great, I have had a few frustrating moments with that too (probably more issues with Kodi / SPMC than with the shield itself).
I was surprised how responsive the UI feels though, probably as good as the Shield so far in that regard. The sony is a complete joke in comparison.

I havent noticed colour banding, but i havent looked for it either…The colours seem way over the top compared to my other TVs tho….too bright, too saturated.

          • @DanielP2: Thanks for the reply.
I am looking to get it for my 80yo mum and she will just using the free to air, Netflix and YouTube.
Typing with the on screen keyboard is hard for her. So the google assistant search is really useful for her to find music on YouTube.

Just don’t want any technical issues for her.
Was also looking at the Sony X90J. But she likes the 3 year warranty on TCL.

@karazy: I havent had it for long enough for anything annoying to pop up yet. It replaced a 15 year old samsung plasma, so its amazing compared to that :P
              So far so good anyway

I updated my 85C825 to google tv and it is working fine. https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/tcl-2021-android-tvs-c05-…

        Very happy with the tv.

    • The US equivalent panel but without the soundbar is the R646. You can get more reviews off picture quality that way

  • Specs looks great but who's got $4000 to spend on a TV these days?

    • +1

Especially a low quality brand like TCL !

    • +3

Spent 5.5k on a 77C1 but each to their own..

      • I know what I'd take

I got 75C825 for $16xx October last year. Yes I was one of lucky one to have it through Appliances online deal, I also have acquired GC $100. I moved from Sony 4K TV mid range (2019 model) and I feel much better with 75C825. I used to use yamaha soundbar with sony TV and I got rid of the soundbar as I felt it's good enough with Onkyo sound system inbuilt. C825 series are top range of TCL TV series and Built material is great and packaging were great. I play Xbox one S and it plays well without any issue. I had 1 occasion that TV restarted but my Sony TV with Android system had restarted issue randomly and so I didn't worry so much.

    • 75C825 for $16xx? Wow! it's hard to even get the 55" for that money these days.

      • Yes, if you search 75X10 in OZbargain, you would see what happened :)

        • Oh, the 75X10 is a completely different TV to this (C825) though. The C825 is mini-led and has a 120hz panel.

          • @Grish: I ordered 75X10, then they couldn't supply and it was a big hit in ozbargain at that time, Appliances online worked together with TCL Australia and offered the C825 75" which is 75C825. I had to wait for nearly 1 month but it was worth it. :)

    • It is quite amazing, I love it~!

I used to use Sony Medium range of 55" 4K TV (after return lower version of Sony 4K TV) and used to use higher end of FHD Samsung 65" TV (but it's 15 years ago and used well before I sell off), I found TCL 75C825 is really great, packaging was very secure, it is heavy but very stable, nice finish exterior and Sound for me is great and I sold Sony TV with Yamaha soundbar. TV comes with built in Onkyo sound system. I was so worried as many people state that TCL TV is not good but my experience with 75C825 is fantastic and beat Sony and Samsung TV I owned before.

I bought a TCL tv in the last 5 months. Shockingly bad quality and an OS to match.

I wouldn’t touch their TVs again, even with 90% off.

    • +1

Not all TV are the same based on the brand. You can buy great TCL and bad ones the same you can buy great Samsungs and really shocking Samsung sets

      • But in my experience, Samsungs are generally well built and the OS is very useable. The TCL I bought wasn’t particularly cheap and was shockingly crap. I also have a Hisense tv that isn’t that much better.

I’ll stick with Sony, LG, Samsung, etc. in future. Once bitten and all that.

        • Funny thing is sony and Samsung have the highest return rate last 2 years. Sony for the hardware/software compatability and Samsung got dse panels. It's a mix bag with all ready these days

  • I've got a 75C825, 65C825 & Sony X90J 55" Bravia and overall I find the TCL's better TV's. I've had quite a few issues with the Sony restarting and Netflix not wanting to play content. Although the Sony does use Google TV the TCL's are due to be upgraded to it soon.
The sound quality is amazing and I've had no issues with picture quality, as someone mentioned these are TCL's flagship model and the quality is great.

  • Im waiting (hoping) on the 75" of this model to hit low 2's

    • I was the same, but ended up grabbing the 75" Samsung Frame for $1900.

      • What are your thoughts on the frame? I'm holding out for the C825 primarily for the quality of the inbuilt onyko speakers.
