Good find. Although, if anyone is interested, please check the Samsung EPP store.

For me currently via my Samsung EPP:

    List Price: $1,439.00
    Less $200 Samsung Promotion
    Less $50 Samsung Newsletter

You could potentially get this TV for $1,189 including delivery.

    • +2

How do you get that newsletter discount? I googled and put my details in and haven't got anything

      • It can sometimes take a while to come through. Try emailing them? Or just make another account and try again.

    • Any details on how to get it for this price? ie. how to join samsung EPP, what the promotion is, what the newsletter discount is?

      • +1

This post here https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/644550 covers the different corporates that participate in the EPP. That's the only way i know on how to accessing an EPP account.

You could try to reach out to someone you know who works/has access to the EPP.

NB: not all EPPs have the same price. There is usually a slight variance.

    • +1

what is the 200 samsung promo, is that applies automatically or need unique like newsletter?

Applies automatically when you click through to checkout on the Samsung EPP

      • New high school email works ;) ask your family

    • +1

Must be corporate EPP only, the 75" version doesn't show on the government EPP :(

      • if you are a Westpac customer you can get the same deal.

Make sure you're not logged in (to samsung with gov or edu account).

        List price is higher though…
        $1519.00 List price
-$200 (Spend $1200 or more on any Domestic Appliance, TV, Soundbar, Monitor and Memory products and save $200. Offer ends 31.01.2022. T&Cs Apply8)
        - $50 (News letter)

        = $1269.00

      • try searching for 'AU8000'. It didn't show up in the Ed store either until I searched.

    • My Ed Store shows the list price as $1,519. Any idea who the cheaper price is for (I'm using an educational account as a teacher but checked as a student too)

      • The $200 off will be applied at the checkout.

        • Yeah but the parent comment has the list price as $1,439

          • @tellu2: discounts vary across the samsung portals

      • edu store won't have the $200 promo

        • it does

          • @wombat81: hmm my edu wouldn't show me it..

            • @blehgg: The deal or the TV? I'm looking at it right now in my ed store cart with the $200 discount applied. Waiting, hoping for the $50 newsletter voucher to arrive…

              • @wombat81: interesting

Was in RE: to the $200

how much was the list price in EDU?

                • @blehgg: $1519. $200 voucher gets applied at the checkout bringing it down to $1319.

                  • @wombat81: Yeah but the parent comment has the list price as $1,439

    • Thanks for the heads up. Newsletter voucher came through and I ended up with a 65" model.

    • Hi mate, could you link where to get the $50 newsletter voucher? Can't find it anywhere

      • +1

Just get on the Samsung store and a pop-up will appear, or in a 'tab' at the bottom of the site.

  • Thanks!

The rting review saying not so good vieweing angles etc….
    https://www.rtings.com/tv/reviews/samsung/au8000

Does this really play out in real life? Has anyone got exerience with this model? Thanks.

    • +3

Well, I am replacing it for my 50" Panasonic plasmas TV. the picture quality is way over it. By the way, the 75" is quite big. So, you don't really going to sit at corner to watch it. if you do I'd suggest you set the display mode to dynamic. it's very bright.

      • +5

I was in the same boat as you. We had a 12 year old 40" Sony plasma that we got for like $50 second hand 5-6 years ago and has been going along so well. Unfortunately for it, we decided to upgrade in the world of TVs because we wanted something a little better :P

We managed to get an INSANE deal on a 75" TV (literally might be the cheapest this TV has ever sold for :P!), but looking at the reviews, everyone was like "oh, compared to OLED it's not as good viewing angles/whatever, or compared to this other TV it's not as bright or whatnot"

Meanwhile we saw it in store and loved it, and when we finally got it in our place, it looks infinitely times better than anything we've ever seen - the viewing angles are great, the brightness is great, the size is massive, and the quality is amazing! We're so glad we didn't listen to reviews in this case since they tend to compare things with the latest and greatest instead of saying how things compare to (very) old technology :P

        • when did you get this tv ? and where ?
          at the same price ?

          • +2

@CyberMurning: Sorry! I should have clarified - I got a different 75" TV, not this one! I can talk about the one I got, but it's not the same 75" TV as the deal

Edit: I can't seem to edit my original comment for some reason, so I just want to clarify I did not get this TV - was just commenting how anecdotally new TVs are amazingly good compared to old plasmas, even if review websites complain about things like viewing angles/brightness etc. Sorry for the confusion!

            • +1

@Opaquer: So what tv did you get?

              • +1

                @ifreddo: I ended up getting a Hisense 75U80G - this guy here: https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/hisense-75-inches-u80g-8k-ule… for only $2.5k

We were originally looking at spending $2k for a TV with HDMI 2.1 since we PS gamers and will be getting a PS5 at some point this year, and will be keeping the TV for years and years and wanted to make use of the new features - given how long our previous TV lasted for, we might even see the PS6 come out before we get a new TV, so figured there'll be some great games over the next 5-10 years that will push the 4k 120hz to its limit. We originally put a refundable deposit down for a 65" Sony X85J, as that was just within our budget and 2.1, then saw that Hisense for $2.5k and decided 8K and an extra 10" was well worth the extra $500!

As I said, coming from a 12 year old plasma, this TV is amazing. The quality is amazingly clear, the brightness is amazing - our room has some big curtains in it so we don't get a lot of outside light, but we do have some bright ceiling lights and there's not been any issues with it. The viewing angles are great - we have a big L shaped couch, and even at the front end of the couch closest to the TV, we don't notice any weird changes in how the TV looks. I suppose if we went basically parallel with the TV we probably would, but we also don't plan on watching the TV at that angle, so it works out well for us. The TV turns on quickly and runs smoothly, with the remote also being easy to use (and bluetooth, so when it's been cold enough to have a blanket on, I can still control the TV, which is great!). All the smart apps are very quick to open, close and respond, and while this one runs Android TV, that's a bit unusual for Hisense TVs - apparently most other ones run their own OS, which I obviously can't comment on. I'm no TV expert, but we haven't been bothered by any blooming or anything like that, so personally we can't complain about it. That said, it's also probably something that wouldn't bother us too much, so YMMV if you care about blooming a lot.

Again, we're not TV experts, so maybe the fact that we went from a 12 year old plasma to this means we don't really notice the flaws - maybe the next time we do get a new TV we'll look back and this how bad this one was compared to it, but all in all, we're amazingly happy with it and super glad we got it!

                • +1

@Opaquer: Hi, thanks for all that information. I am not so sure whether one can comapre this samsung to a 8k TV but still your point is taken about the 12 year old plasma vs new tv. This is indeed the predicament that I find myself in….

                  • +1

@Naigrabzo: I agree completely - one thing that helped me was going into store and looking at the TVs at various angles to see how they looked. When we were looking at the Sony, we stood where we would have the extreme ends of the couch to see what the TV looked like, and where we would have to go to start to see some inaccuracies. Also sometimes the TVs don't exactly have a good demo playing - there's been a few times where it looks like some TVs in showrooms were connected up to a 480p source because of how bad the quality was, which makes it hard when trying to figure out how good of an upgrade it'll be.

Unfortunately since all the reviews compare the latest TVs with other flagship recent TVs, it's really hard to get an idea of just how good a TV is against old technology, but hopefully you manage to find a solution to it :)

                • @Opaquer: When did you buy u80g? I would buy u80g too if I can negotiate $2.5k. Would you be able to pm me a receipt? My samsung qled tv broke down and need to buy another set.

                  • +1

@Tupac: I bought it over the boxing day sales. It was actually a display - Hisense went to the Good Guys store I went to and had redone their display stands. In doing so, Hisense brought out another 75U80G and installed it on the wall, even though TGG already had one. TGG guess because they took it down for Hisense to redo the display section, Hisense didn't see a 75U80G, so just got a new one installed for them. TGG asked Hisense if they wanted the old one back, or to take the new one down to put the old one up for display, but Hisense didn't care that much about it and let them keep it, so the U80G was listed as a display item and marked down to $2.5k. TGG still had the box, remote, and full warranty which would start when I bought it. They packed it up as good as new, and there weren't any marks/scuffs/scratches/scrapes anything. It was just a case of being in the right place at the right time to see it there and be able to grab it before someone else realised what was there. Unfortunately the receipt very clearly says it's a display item, one off as is, so wouldn't help with negotiating it down.

I have the 85" and It's a decent TV for most of my use cases (general TV, 4K web content, movies etc.).
Sound is crap as any other TV. You'd need a decent soundbar/setup.
I have this one paired with Q900A and movie nights are simply awesome !!

I wouldn't use it for gaming though.

      • It'd be ok for Switch games though, yeah?

        • It should be OK for standard games. However, playing games on such a large screen puts me off.. personal preference !

  • This the Hisense A7G, U7G or TCL 725? Such a tough decision!

    • +2

I am using this Samsung model and it’s great. I love Samsung’s remotes as they are bluetooth ones which means you can use it from anywhere in the house. Even from under the blanket or from another room.

      • +1

we are more interesting on what was going on under the blanket……

        • @ChiMot it’s better to keep that secret ;-)

    • +1

also considering these options, keen to hear from other Ozbarginers!

    • This the Hisense A7G, U7G or TCL 725?
how much is the Hisense A7G, U7G or TCL 725? similar range ?

  • Very good deal for a 75". I've also got a Samsung from 2 years ago for $1500 and I think my only regret is not spending more for OLED. Otherwise this is good for a budget big TV.

  • FWIW, coming up 1,319 via my EPP portal after $200 spend and save discount.

  • worth the extra $350ish for the Q60?

    • wondering the same

    • +3

      https://www.rtings.com/tv/tools/compare/samsung-q60-q60a-qle…

I have used this AU8000 and Q60A both.
There is a 15-20% difference in brightness, Q60A being more brighter.

But it depends, if you watch more sports than HDR movies, you should go with AU8000, but if you watch everything and care about HDR brightness, Q60A is worth the extra 350$.

Samsung education store have Q60A 75 for $1700, AU8000 for $1319, and if you are looking for something more brighter and better than these both, you can buy frame 75 inch for $1984

      • Thanks. Saw the review/comparison, but it's hard to compare to our existing 5yo tvs. I'd assume both will look great!
In our case we use for a bit of everything, and wouldn't notice 4k anyway (sitting 10' back, so beyond 1080p is pointless).
I get the Q60 rates higher, but is it worth the extra 25% price hike?

        • +1

Definitely both tvs would be better than what you have right now, 25% hike is not worth for Q60. Go for 75 inch AU8000, you can’t get a better price. Also mentioned on the website, au8000 and q60 are fairly similar tvs, so you should be alright with au8000

        • You won't notice a 25% difference unless you have side by side.

      • Strange, the AU8000 isn't listed on the Ed store for me…

Edit: scratch that, it's there. Have to search though. It's not in the 'televisions' category.

      • Hi is it possible for you to tell me the price for 75inch QN90A listed on the education portal? Many thanks :)

        • +1

          75" QN90A Neo QLED 4K Smart TV (2021) $4,855.38 Save $693.63 (Was $5,549.00)

          Then the further $200 off

          • @wombat81: Legend, thank you very much for sharing this :)

  • good price for a massive 75

  • Is the slim wall mount worth getting? Or just get a bunnings one?

  • You can also grab a Betta gift card from Shopback with a 6% discount.
