If for example you bought the One version but end up with a Series S/X some time down the line, does it still count as a purchase and you can upgrade or is it only specific to one platform?

Sorry if it's a dumb question, probably is.

    • +22

Xbox uses something called "Smart Delivery" that ensure you can purchase once and always be able to play the best version of the game for the platform you are using. So if you purchase this for Xbox One, you will play the Xbox One version. When you play on Series X, you will play the Series X version. Same with PC.

One purchase unlocks all versions, and you don't need to specifically pick which one to play.

        Prefect explanation, thank you muchly!

        • +3

Just note, not every game actually supports smart delivery. Eg COD, BF2042, FIFA. Whilst you can buy the Xbox One version and use it on the Series X/S, it isn't actually the Series X/S version. You actually have to buy the Series version (or sometimes pay to upgrade).

          • @beaver2233: Oh no, now I'm not sure. Going by the titles you named, which are third party, they get a bit more wiggle-room to screw buyers over. I'm hoping first parties are a bit more regimented and Microsoft insists they are usable across all available platforms for the one-time-buy.

But definitely useful info, so thanks for heads-up.

            • +2

@stubbietubbie: All Xbox first party titles use smart delivery, so you get the best versions available. Most third parties use it too but there are a few exceptions, like those noted above.

  • Does anyone know the trade in value at eb games for a physical copy? Thinking I'll trade my copy in and then buying the digital version…

Both PC and Xbox versions for the same low price of $19.98 each.

The PC and Xbox versions are the same purchase, there's no 'each'.

Buy once and can play on PC, XBOX One, Xbox Series S/X and any other future Xbox console.

It's also $19.98 on Steam if you have no interest in the Xbox and want to mod the game (not locked down like the Windows Store version):

I'm a huge fan of this Play Anywhere model… love how I can have it on my Xbox, my PC, my laptop… and it all synchronises too.

  • I only started playing Halo infinite and didn't play previous releases. Is this worth playing now?

    • +1

I actually enjoyed it.. didn't really like it as a kid but somehow it's fun playing on PC now with all the new support for ultrawide/etc.

    • +1

I’d say so, especially in co-opp. More linear than Infinite but the gunplays fairly similar, so if you’re enjoying the latest game I think it’s a good one to get. The games largely hold up quite well still.

Also might add some weight to the Cortana plot elements of Infinite.

But yeah, co-opp is a blast if you can go through it with someone else, and on Xbox you can split screen the games.

Yes, absolutely! The MCC has all 8(?) games in the series, right from the very original Halo, Combat Evolved.

They are all excellent single & couch co-op campaigns, even if the online multiplayer might not be as active in the older games.

      Well worth $20.

      • +1

Halo 5 not included in MCC version.

You'll miss not having the grapple.

      • I just played last night and that was my first reaction!

Can't believe MCC is that old. I remember staying up (overseas) at launch only to find myself waiting hours for nothing as online multiplayer did not work.

    • And I thought I did well buying the hard copy for 19 bucks a few years ago

    • Got mine for around 15 at CDKeys mid-ish 2016 when I got an Xbone. At the time I was bummed when it was cheaper but it's come back around so much since then that I got off ahead considering a mate just picked this up for around 30 I think on the store.

Not sure, but I don't think the version bought then included ODST and Reach, I still have them available to either purchase, or install via Game Pass, despite owning the MCC digitally.

  • This was regularly around $5 I guess if you need proof of inflation there it is 😅

    • You need more goods in your basket.

    • +1

This game was very very broken when it was $5. But to 343 Industries' credit, they persevered with it and eventually fixed all the issues. The price has since increased to reflect the improved quality. Today it's the best way to play Halo.

Maybe now is a great time to buy Cyberpunk 2077, and it will become a great game eventually. Maybe.

This has nothing to do with inflation.

      • Inflation always plays a roll, however miner

      • +1

Also previous $5 versions don’t have games past halo 4. I have older mcc and thinking about this one just to get the rest. The other thing I don’t like is how you have to have all games installed - I just wanted halo 4 but had to install all as MCC is a package. I am sure there is a way but haven’t found it yet.

  • I've just bought this, but can't seem to work out how to get it installed on my PC. In the Xbox app, it tells me I have to purchase it again and if I go into the store, I can see a couple of the Halo games but it won't allow me to install them.

    • What did you buy it on? Windows 10 or 11, or Xbox? And are you using Microsoft Store vs. Xbox app if on PC? I've found it to be a bit finicky sometimes and you also need to ensure you're signed into same account across everything (I still have two accounts - one for Windows/Office365, and one for Xbox, which is a hassle).

      • Win 11. Same account logged into store and xbox app. I ended up getting a refund from Microsoft (came through straight away) and purchased the steam version as I had some credit to use. Can't play on xbox but not a big deal in the end as I prefer to play on PC.

    • +1

You download master chief collection first and the games are downloaded as DLC for that

      • MCC wasn't showing up for me in the store though. On the Xbox app, it just wanted me to purchase it again. All good now, got the steam version.

  • It's all in the GPU anyway, is it not?

    • +2

Yes, it's available on Game Pass Ultimate
