What VLT Percentage Windows Tint Is Your Front Side Windows

I am curious what people have on their front side windows. I recently installed 15% and found night driving a challenge when driving through a poorly lit street. No problem on well lit roads.

My street have refuge island and large tree blocking light post. I could not see the refuge island when turning into my street but obviously I knew it is there, so I am worry if I am driving in places I am not familiar then I may potentially mount onto something.

With the tint newly installed, I notice a lot of people have very dark tint as well. So am I the only one regretting it?

The dark tint looks awesome. But I am a function over look kind of person so I will get it changed. My next problem is should I get all side change to same tint level or mix and match with back being privacy tint

So what do you have on your front?

In Qld, front windows lowest legal is 35%, while rear windows lowest legal is 20%. So those are what I have and found no issues at night.

100% agree, I have darkest legal tint on all my windows and it’s great, can’t see in the back of the car most of the time, but no loss of visibility from the front windows.

You'll find that law is Aus-wide

Legal plus 15%. Police never care. Even lights are elevated which I can see better. I'd change my mind if police bother.

Edit: Not with downvotes because everyone else is doing it

    • They do care sometimes. It's a simple matter to get it taken off, pass the inspection, then get it put back on.

That's why I started murdering people, saw so many murders on TV though I might as well get in on the action!

In NSW they’ll check your tint at rego inspection time and less than legal will need to be rectified.

If you can’t see when driving you need your head read. If you crash, an insurer may deny your claim if they see the windows look too dark. Whoever installed it for you also needs a slap upside the head.

Sometimes it looks dark from the outside for reasons other than how tinted it is.

The Octavia has never been checked in 13 years.

The Mk3.5 Golf before that wasn't checked for the 2 Safety Inspections it had (and it looked terrible).

The Liberty, ditto for 8 years.

I do recall the U13 Bluebird was checked once circa 2002 and he tried to knock it back but did a u-turn when I produced the invoice stating it was 35%. His machine had gone out of calibration.

      • Fair enough, I have had a car checked with a doohickey, but it was a long time ago. Just assumed they still did it.

If you are p player or driving a hoon car, the cops will be looking g for an excuse to defect you. Don’t make it easy.

  • I've had around 20% before and while great during the day, found it too dark at night. I stick with legal tint these days.

  • Don't forget insurance, have an accident, and if the % is checked, you may say goodbye to any cover..

Have been on 5% tints over 3 cars in 4 years and never had an issue with police. Much, much prefer it to driving with no tints or 35%. Seeing people with their sunvisor contraptions trying to block the sun, squinting, while i’m comfortable.

I have not had visibility issues. I don’t miss cars in my mirror, which are all properly adjusted as so that i’m not looking at my own vehicle in it.

How do you know what you haven’t seen? You didn’t see it. You just mean you’ve been driving around with very limited vision and haven’t crashed yet.

      • You’re kidding, you think in the last 250,000km travelled i’d be somehow unaware of how many accidents you think i’ve nearly had?

I have BSM too, if i did miss a car it would be beeping and carrying on.

Actually I just think you are a selfish ….. for driving an unroadworthy vehicle with a specific modification to make it harder to see. It shits me that there are people like you driving around making it more dangerous for everyone.

The road, traffic and other hazards isn’t just out the front window, its all around.

          • @Euphemistic: Sorry you feel that way. For me I don’t see it having any bearing on road safety so I disagree with you. I’m in my late 20s and have good night vision, I know several people who claim they “can’t see well at night” and continue to drive anyway.

If it posed an issue for me with visibility I would drop it back to a 15 or 35% tint. If anything I spend slightly longer checking mirrors and for pedestrians that might appear.

I don’t drive distracted or whilst not paying attention. If you asked me at any point in time I could tell you which cars make and model are around me, which lanes and how far away.

Never have I said “oh crap I didn’t see that car/person” and your comment stating I couldn’t possibly know if I didn’t see or not is incorrect, the consequences of missing a car are immediately obvious.

@Mungulz: It’s not just about cars with headlights approaching. It’s also about being able to see things that don’t have their own lights like pedestrians and animals. I still stand by that if you haven’t seen something, you probably are not aware of having not seen it.

              I hope you get defected.

  • 20% all round on the Octavia for the past 13 years. Have never had an issue with police or passing registration despite it illegal. I wouldn't do it again as my night vision now isn't as good as it was 13 years ago.

The Pajero Sport is darkest legal (35%) and blends in well with the factory privacy glass behind the front doors
