Boost Mobile Changes to Intl Inclusions March 2022

Boost recently announced changes to their international inclusions here.

CHANGES TO INTERNATIONAL INCLUSIONS
We are making some changes to the included destinations for international calls.

From 1 February 2022, Brazil and the Netherlands will be available for unlimited calls, and Argentina will be included as one of the 30 destinations with an allocation of call minutes.

From 29 March 2022, Afghanistan will no longer be available for international calls, and the Philippines and South Africa will move from unlimited calls to an allocation of call minutes.

It looks like the changes will affect existing customers at their next recharge after 29 March.

My mum uses Boost for the unlimited minutes to the Philippines. What other options are there after this change?

Could she sign up to a Boost 1yr plan before 29/3 to minimise the effect?

    • All plans will be transitioned at some point this year, so it's only delaying the inevitable imo.

My mum uses Boost for the unlimited minutes to the Philippines. What other options are there after this change?

    change mum ?

    • She should use the online apps as has been stated. Skype, WhatsApp, Viber— it'll be a bit of a learning curve, but mum should start testing them all out with a dedicated family "helper" in the Philippines so she/they are all ready to go!

  • It's still a decent amount of minutes of calls to the Philippines (1200 min on $200, 3600 min on $300).

If she really needs more, is she able to shift some of her calls to one of the messaging apps (Facebook, WhatsApp, Viber, etc.)? I find that I only really need network calls for traditional institutions (e.g. banks, offices, churches, etc.).

    • She does use Facebook for some but the phone quality is pretty bad :/ she was on the old $150 /year which was pretty sweet

      • Change to apple FaceTime call it’s good quality

Still no international roaming despite them bringing it back in "early 2022" :(

    • early 2022, is normally around March, not Jan.

      • Right, but if they're announcing March changes to international calls right now you'd think they'd announce roaming ones around the same time.

  • My mum uses Boost for the unlimited minutes to the Philippines. What other options are there after this change?

If they need more than 300 mins a month, then change company/plans. Nothing you can do about it. Boost terms are changing

    • Yeah I suppose. I found Amaysim offers unlimited for $150/6 months. Kinda sucks cos she was on $150/year, forced onto the $200/year with Boost. Just trying to help her get a bargain!

      • I don't disagree it sucks, but at the end of the day, the plans have changed and there isn't much you can do about it. My folks got moved from $150 to $200/yr as well. But for them, its still way cheaper than the old $50/m telstra plan they had been on!

Would she be calling more than 5 hours a month? If so, can she spread the usage over other methods of calling like messenger, google duo/facetime etc?

  • As you are an existing customer, on your next recharge after 1st Feb 2022, you will be able to continue
calling Philippines and South Africa but instead of having unlimited minutes to
make calls, these countries will now be limited to a capped number of minutes.

For a $30/$40/$50/$70 recharge, you will be limited to 300mins / recharge

For a $200 recharge, you will be limited to 1200 mins / recharge

For a $300 recharge, you will be limited to 3600mins / recharge

This really sucks for me. I call the Phillipines daily.

Before Boost, I used to buy 1000 minute blocks for ~$25 via the Libon app. they would last me 2-3 months. They were good when i used regularly 3 or 4 years ago.
(I still have app and just looked up current rates - 1500 Smart minutes - $36AUD. 1500Globe mins $29AUD)

I know some have said Whatsapp/Viber/FM but this inst practical for many over there, the 4G service is often patchy and sound and vid quality is never good, also many people prepay load and data is expensive and issued in small amounts.

My boost was due to migrate and renew next week.I really don't know what to do. I was happy to pay $200/yr for how I was using it. if $300/yr was unli I probably would have went that route. I'll probably start to look elsewhere and do some math, but if anyone else finds anything better please holler.

I found Amaysim has $150/6 months with unlimited calls to 42 countries including Philippines which might be better than Boost’s $300/12 month plan. I just wonder will Philippines will be removed from Amaysim like other companies have done…

      • Thanks, I wasn't looking at the Optus network but is the only one I see now that provides true unlimited, if only for 6 months. I have looked just about everywhere and this Amaysim does seem the only ones left.

  • you can try VOIP on your smartphone using grandstream wave lite
you will need a VOIP account. From siptalk its 16 cents per min

    There are other VOIP providers

  • Thanks for the suggestion, however, I mentioned the Libon app a few posts ago, which I have used on my Android/google device a few years ago. The service was good then but have not used it recently.

1500 Globe minutes is $29 AUD - or 1.93 cents per minute
1500 Smart minutes is $35 AUD - or 2.4 cents per minute.

I don't remember creating an account. No connection fees on calls , there are options to buy smaller blocks but they are not as good value.

Also, Its possible to use Play credits to purchase these if you have them, or buy gift cards at a reduced price if you are lucky enough to see them on sale at a supermarket.

I am by no means associated with Libon and I expect there are other similar companies out there, just sharing my experience.

Anyone else really confused with the new Boost Mobile app and plan name changes.

It seems the old app does not even work any more and the new one does not show old plans so basically old plans cant check their status and info.

I am not even sure if my old boost details will do the auto recharge or not.. kind of anxiety stricken with this and their website does not really help.

Guess will find out if auto recharge still works with old plan or not but I have already asked support and even they cannot see old plan expiry and data usage details etc.

So cannot find out how much data I actually used over the last 12 months sigh.
