What Does "Tesla Model Y Supports a 360V Electrical Architecture in Australia" Mean?

Interestingly, VedaPrime says the Model Y supports a 360V electrical architecture in Australia, instead of the closely related Model 3 mid-size sedan’s 400V setup, which the larger Model S sedan and Model X SUV also have.

I don't understand - don't we all get a 230V AC power supply at homes? Can someone choose to get a 360V plug? Googled and no useful result turned out

Thanks

  • Does it refer to 3-phase power supply? I saw some 3 phase power plug (the kind that has 4 holes, the additional being the ground) in some youtube videos, but never saw it in real life. Does it mean the home charger will be cheaper (either hardware or electricity cost) if you get an electrician to add that 4-hole thing to your garage?

    • But three phase power in Australia is 400V

Pretty sure they've just gotten confused on what they mean with the voltages, all this sources back to is a single tweet. It almost looks like an article written by a bot, not a knowledgeable car journalist.

360V nominal voltage sounds about right, the S is 375V and the X is 350V. That is different to maximum voltage when the pack is charged, which would be 400V.

Yep the writer of the article has NFI what they are writing about and just copy/pasting bits together to fill some quota. Its basically what journalism has come to these days.

    • Yep, that sounds right. Nothing to do with charge speeds or types of power point you can use or anything else like that (as other comments here suggest). It's pretty much irrelevant to the prospective buyer/owner.

Tell me you don't know how to review/write about EVs without saying you don't know how to.

The person that wrote that piece has no real clue and seems to be doing just a lot of copy/paste to make a article.

Also if you look at the source, the 360v claim was around the pack, not the charging

Again the writer not having any idea.

The big question, of course, is when local order books will open for the Model Y, but all the signs point to them doing so before the end of this year, with first deliveries to take place during the same timeframe or in early 2022.

Also got that bit wrong too. Hello 2022…. still can't order a model y.

This is Tesla, don't expect any 'new car' to come within 5 years of the promised date. Walmart and UPS are still waiting for the TeslaSemi, only 2 years overdue and still no sign of it on the horizon.
Then there's the Cybercuck, production in 2021 promises and not even out of it's one off prototype stage.

'Tesla, over promise and never deliver' should be their slogan.

      • But their shareholders do love a new car reveal…

Musk is the bitcoin of the automotive world, makes money based on trust, not assets/production.

But he can make your indicators sound like farts #progressive.

@Brian McGee: something must be working if his market cap is bigger than all of the other manfacturers combined

i acknowledge the game is broken but he's better at it than anyone else… but quite a margin

So those near 1M cars they produced and sold last year didn't happen?

Musks makes money because he has a vision years ahead of everyone else.

If it was left to GM/Ford, we'll still be driving around in cars based on 80s tech like they make today.

The supply chain issues for most car OEMs is they use really old tech that no one is making anymore, so struggle to get.

Model Y is shipping in volume…. Just not to OZ thanks to RHD.

Funny, the first trucks are rolling out to test customers right now.

Was pushed out to 2023 to focus on ramping up model 3/y production that has huge order books. There are many prototypes of the CT being pictured around the factory. Musk is often seen driving one. Its not a one off.

'Tesla, over promise and never deliver' should be their slogan.

Bit like your post. Full of misinformation, the difference is Musk will deliver at some point even if its 'late'.
