What card to use for this payment?

Hi guys,

I have to pay a merchant based in India about ~100,000 indian rupees. More than $2k Aud

They've asked me to pay using the following link:

https://nilibar.letzpay.com/

I don't doubt the payment platform etc. They're a large company. Not worried about scam.

Just not sure which is the best card to pay for this while attracting minimum amount of fees/FX conversion fees.

My options are:
- HSBC debit or credit
- CBA debit or credit
- Amex credit
- I have a wise (formerly Transfer Wise) account, in case that helps.
- happy to sign up to any other account as recommended

I'm worried if I use HSBC Debit, I'll get a crappy conversion fee from Visa.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks

    • Thanks a lot. I did read that earlier

I have the HSBC card which has no international fee but unsure of what rate I'll get and how to get the best rate!

      Thanks

  • Revolut. They use the mid market rate rather than the visa/mastercard rate (which is already very good).

Be sure to sign up to Revolut using one of the referral links on ozbargain so someone here gets free money!

    • Thankyou but I need to pay within 24 hours. Any idea how long it takes? Thanks!

  • I am generally more concerned when I am sending dollars overseas, because Australian banks offer really bad conversion rates. However, I am not too concerned about exchange rates when I am paying on credit card, except for the international transaction fee. That said, in my experience back when I had Amex, it gave me the best rate. I have also used MasterCards issued by CBA and BankWest over the years and their rates are comparable. INR is currently hovering between ₹52.8 and ₹53.3, and the rate will be determined at the time of transaction.

If you are really concerned and need confirmation on the conversion rate, call your banks and ask them.
