Reece Warranty Doesn't Cover Plumber?

My builder purchased a few items from Reece in a bathroom renovation in 2018 which were all installed by a licenced plumber at the time, and the basin mixer has fallen apart on me over christmas.

After dealing with their customer care, I was informed that the parts to fix the tap will be sent out but I would have to source my own local plumber. Is this right?

Yes. The warranty is on the product, not free labour to install it for you.

    Yes. Seems right.

  • What were the labour terms with regard to warranty did the builder offer on contract?

    • What were the labour terms

      Check with Dan.

The only way the original plumber may fit the replacement product for free is if you can prove that they incorrectly did the original fit and that caused the basin mixer to fall apart.

Very little chance of that happening, especially after 4 years.

basin mixers take 5-10 mins to install…

    just do it yourself…

If you know what you're doing - it's not an issue but even something easy like a mixer swap is easy for ordinary people to get wrong. Damaged flexi hoses during the install, the mixer tail coming loose within the mixer whilst the person installing it is screwing it on to the water connections (meaning that a significant leak could happen later/at night and be undetected).

It literally screwing 2 hoses into their taps.

A plumber quoted me $300 to supply and install a basin tap.

I tried hard not to laugh at him.

        • The warranty is void if it's not done by a licenced plumber.

            @King Steuart: lol

Do you also hire a plumber to connect your garden hose?
If not, does that void the hose warranty?

            • @jv: This is a repair not a replacement. They are sending out parts for the mixer. I'd have to know how to pull it all apart and put it back together again properly.

Not worth the time or effort…

Cheaper and quicker just to replace it yourself.

                • @jv: If it breaks again I probably will, and also I'll be thoroughly unimpressed with Reece.

This is odd, as I had the same issue of a product failure through E&S but they organised someone to fix/install the new part for us. YMMV?

    • E&S are known for their excellent customer service.

I think it would be dependent on supplier of the hardware and their customer service.
I had a Blanco mixer leak on me after 4 years. They organised to send the new parts to the service rep/plumber and they were here within 2 days to replace it.

    • Yep, same experience with Blanco except with a cracked sink.

    Go with Methven in future.

20 years domestic parts and labour warranty.

Having said that, the only servicable parts on a Basin Mixer is the cartridge which I prefer to do myself, shouldn't be more than a 5 min job. Saves the hassles of arranging with plumber etc.

    • I'll be checking what warranty is provided when doing the kitchen and downstairs laundry/bath renovations that's for sure.

      • Note with Reece, they sell some in-house brands, i.e. Mizu

Reasonable in quality but overpriced with a high margin. Builders like you to use Reece in-house products because the builders get a cut.

For the same, if not less money, you're better off buying Methven. Reece also sell Methven but Bunnings sells them cheaper.

        • My builder passes on the savings for Reece
