Samsung Trade-up Extra $60 Charge

Samsung Trade-Up (Asurion) just charged today $120 ($60 for device & $60 management fee)

I don't have receipt/invoice for it. They emailed me that they are still waiting for device to be returned.

if not returned, they will charge $60 & other fee.

Has this happened to anyone else.

  • They emailed me that they are still waiting for device to be returned.

Lol so you kept the trade-in phone? Yeah they've been doing this for a lil while to stop people just paying the trade-in value but reaping the benefits

    • Yeah. It pretty good value for phone considering normal discount + trade-in discount.

I am not complaining as it is still really good value for the phone I received.

Your post contradicts itself. You said you got charged today but then you say they will charge you if you don't return the device.

    • Sorry. I meant to say they emailed me last week about charging me if device is not returned.

Today, when I checked my account, they charged $120.

  • Yep. They sent me warning emails and they took the trade up cost and the fee of $60
However I still made a profit on selling my phone privately.

    • Thanks. I thought it happened only to me and I must have done something wrong :P

  • what happens if they cannot charge the card?
eg, it has no money in it

    • send your details to Debt collectors unless you used a fake name, details and ID as well as a prepaid card !

  • you should complain to them that on the app, it does not shows the $60 admin fees for device not returned!

Its on the T&Cs that you have agreed to

      • Are you sure? I try to do trade in a few days ago, the app shows the amount that you will be charged if the device is not returned. The amount is only for the trade in value. They should show it on the app.

  • I traded in a phone for the Fold 3 deal and have still yet to be charged. Anyone else in the same boat?

  • Is this trade in on the dedicated Samsung app? It didn't seem like much value when my S20 was valued at only $200. Thoughts?

  • So if my trade in value is $5. I will be charged $120 if phone not returned?

    • $65 ($5+$60)

  • Hmm, yea I ran the Asurion/Samsung trade-up app for the tradein value then entered the code on the Samsung store. However, I didnt proceed with the order and have since sold the phone. I just checked my credit card statement and Asurion has charged me $105 already?

Yes, they are now holding the charge, presumably many tried to get away with using a pre-paid card etc.

If you don't use the code by it's validity, the hold will be released.

  • It's been more than a month since I used their trade in code to get the S21 FE. Not a single email asking me to send in the device and I haven't been charged yet. Haha anyone in the same boat? Normally how long does it take for them to charge us (if they ever do)?

    • This happened to me. Bought a phone 21/12/21. Just got email asking for phone to be returned on 24/08/22 or I'll be charged. Took them 8 months.

      • Same here haha I just got charged a week ago. It was fun while it lasted. They probably did their end of financial year audits and noticed it's missing.

  • Any one received such email to charge non-return fee of order from last year? I was already charged for non-return fee last year

  • I’m in an opposite scenario to this where I’ve got a credit of $60 in dec 2022 for no apparent reason. Haven’t used a trade up since Dec 2021 or the care+ replacement in august 2022.
