JB Hi-Fi Telstra Plan Tethering - Poor Quality

I've signed up to a JB hifi plan late last year, and found that my Tethering has become a nightmare.

The download / upload speeds are good but I'm getting lots of dropouts since then.

Comparing to Coles Mobile / iPhone 12 Pro, but iPhone 13 Pro on telstra shows terrible results.

Has anyone experienced the same?

Prior to this JB plan, I was on a previous JB plan - had no issues with tethering whatsoever.

    Do a like for like comparison with same device in case the 13 Pro is faulty for some reason. Also try wired tethering if you're doing wireless hotspot as there may be interferences causing issues there.

    If same result, contact them, it might be a network issue. Coles is on Optus network so maybe Telstra is sketchy in your area for some reason.

  • Normal browsing on the phone is fine, but tethering isn't? That's weird…have you speed tested both? Tried tethering to another device?

  • I’ve been trying to wifi hotspot to my Shield without success last couple of days. Worked fine with Aldi previously. Now on jb hifi Telstra plan - no good. Wife’s phone with Aldi is fine (much better phone though). My hotspot to iPad works ok though

    do a speedtest in place, and also with the phone at the window and report back

  • I’ve had issues the last month, think there’s some Telstra infrastructure issues that are ongoing at the moment.

  • I can see you live Melbourne. Telstra is just terrible in general. I recommend getting a Vodafone started sim and see if you like the speeds.

  • I have the same issue. iPhone 13 pro and hotspot to my laptop and iPad. Takes ages to establish and be seen as a hotspot and then sometimes just drops off. Never had this problem in my old JB hifi plan with iPhone 10.

  • Further to this I would like to know where to get help for this issue. I have spent two days arguing with Telstra because they have a ‘glitch’ where my 100GB plan has been dropped to 25GB. They say they are going to fix it but will take days. Our NBN got knocked out so I am relying on hotspots for everything. Telstra said because I am on a JB hifi plan they can’t give me data to help me out. One tried to tell me I have to speak to JB!! So aside from crap hotspot capability I would love to hear of others have issues?
