Pre-Purchase Inspection for New Vehicles

I understand that this is recommended when you buy a used vehicle, but should you have one when you buy a new vehicle from a dealership? New cars come with warranty but that's not to say that the car you're buying is fault free, and I thought that a pre-purchase inspection would prevent future headaches dealing with a dealer to fix problems under warranty, particularly for performance cars.

  • No, it is not required for a brand new car from a dealership. You're not likely to have issues out of the door so it's pointless. Any issues that crop up after driving it for some time will be covered by warranty (except wear and tear items obviously).

Don't need a paid inspection but you can do this yourself

You have a month time for mechanical issues if any which they can look into after 1 month check up. Warranty period after :)

For cosmetic do a thorough check roof and under vehicle before signing the handover document.

    • I laughed imaging myself inspecting under the vehicle! How do you do that?

Cosmetic check to ensure paint is correct, panel gaps are good and no dings dents scratches etc…

    • Didn't think about panel gaps. Thanks for that

Happy 36th birthday in 134 days.

  • I wouldn't bother with a brand new vehicle but it might be a good idea to get a third party inspection just before the warranty runs out if you are keeping the car and have any suspicions that there may be potential issues.

    • That's a good idea. I had never thought about it

Don’t pay for an inspection for a new vehicle, or one under factory warranty. Do carry out a personal inspection from top to bottom to see if any damage is apparent. Check as much as you want to see if everything is working. Include things like wipers, lights, heating and cooling, electric mirrors, seats etc.

  • Looks like it was a silly question!

    • Not as silly as you looking under a brand new car

    • We get lots of silly questions here. This isn’t one of the silliest, by a long shot.
