Back Seat Car Camera

Does anyone have a suggestion for a camera for the back seat to view my baby while in the car? I've found a heap on Amazon that all get mixed reviews.

  • Does the rear view mirror not work?

    • yeah, you can see the back of a rearward facing seat.

We used another mirror for a rearward facing baby seat.

    Mirror on the headrest?

    • Might end up doing that.

        Kmart does them cheap

      • This is what we did and what I think most people do. It can be fiddly getting the mirror in the right spot. It won’t be long before they are grabbing it, pulling it down and playing with it, and by then you don’t really need it. You’ll find people giving them away on marketplace.

With all due respect, you should be focussing on the road, not a passenger.

Yes, you are the first person ever to have a child.

If baby starts choking, you stop as quickly and as safely as possible and render assistance.

Screaming child = alive and normal

If you take your eyes off the road every time junior makes a noise…..that's a recipe for bad stuff to happen

So you wouldn’t glance at your baby in the mirror whilst stopped at traffic lights? Thousands of mirrors for this exact purpose are sold. It’s completely normal to keep an eye on your baby whilst in the car.

          • @morse: Of course I did. Even turned my head regularly to gaze at my gorgeous screaming vomit dripping down their chest offspring.

            But…
the op has a rear facing seat
The op wants a dedicated camera / screen that is clearly designed to do more than just occasionally glance at

Get this or similar. We have an old Brica version they don't seem to sell anymore, the music and lights saved our butts many times as a distraction until you can pull over when baby flips out and goes mental. The soothing sleeping music helped at times too. Although it will probably get stuck in your head…I still remember the tunes years later.

If you don't want to spend that much, a plain mirror is probably under $20 if you search "rear facing baby mirror".

    • That's a good idea, thanks.

How did all the parents in the past drive without these cameras?

You don't need this shit. It's just another distraction putting both yourself and your newborn at risk. Plus other road users. Focus on your driving. If your baby needs attention pull over when safe to a safe spot and check on the baby.

FFS. I'm over all this technology for the sake of it shit.

As a parent and a driver I suggest that you don't need a camera.

To be fair though it was far more common for babies to die of SIDS or get left in cars in the past. If you notice your baby has stopped breathing, early you can respond on time to save them. If you’re more aware of your child being there you’re less likely to accidentally leave them in the car. I just had a mirror but a camera would allow better visibility.

What car do you drive? Do you have a car radio? GPS? Power windows? Or have you disabled all that technology? Are you focused on driving 100% of the time?

        It's just another distraction

When I had infants (20 years ago} I was driving a TS Astra.

I'm not saying there aren't distractions in a car but why add another one. You can't parent and drive at the same time. I know that from experience.

Not a cheap solution but we got a hand me down from the sister for this item

it sits on the dash, is reasonably clear and I value over the mirror however you are introducing cost and a whole bunch of wires but these can be hidden

we also needed a plug extension lead for our car

    • I've been looking at these ones. What's the night vision like?

As a part and tech nerd, I considered this as the mirrors I got were painful to get in the right position or didn't suit the car. I can totally understand where you are coming from even if others don't. Never ended up doing it as we got past it.

You don't need any electronic gadget. Just a mirror like this https://www.kmart.com.au/product/travel-mirror/3572841

Also they get given away all the time on Facebook groups so you don't even have to spend any money.
