Restaurant with Private Dining Room for Small Group (Melbourne)

Hi all

Just after some budget friendly suggestion for a restaurant (any cuisine is ok) with private dining room that will cater for 8 people (thinking less than $70 per head if possible). Location preferred is near CBD but other locations are ok to be considered too. Thank you.

Maybe list what you'd be willing to spend per person excluding drinks? Budget friendly is like the how long is a piece of string question

    • Thank you. Updated.

I'm not sure if you're going to get a proper "private dining room" experience for $560. The ones I've seen have a per head charge, plus a minimum spend of $1500-2000 for the night.

    Have a look at https://dukeofwellington.com.au/functions/

Most hotels probably have better options than a restaurant would have, and as you aren't bothered about the cuisine it should be ok.

I know Supernormal in the CBD has a private dining room, but not sure what the cost of that will be.

    • It's 40 people, I doubt they'd take 8 unless they're really quiet

Are you doing lunch or dinner? Lots of options for business breakfast and lunches (Luminal, Grain Store), dinner gets a bit tough at under $70 a head (and near impossible if including drinks), anywhere aimed for 10 or less in a dining room tends to be fine dining. They're rather just stick you on a table in the restaurant for that kind of dollars/size.

Neighbourhood Wine is $75 if Fitzroy is ok, they have some nice little rooms. Garden State Hotel has a million different rooms and would fit the budget. Loch & Key is a neat one, although I can't remember what the minimum bill is like but the food is decent pub fare and very cheap (plus it's a nifty upstairs cocktail bar out on a balcony, better for 15+ but they will probably swing you as an early dinner group easily enough, nice on a warm day).

    • We are doing lunch. Thanks for all the suggestions.

not sure if it is a thing in Melbourne, but a lot of the old school bigger yum cha resturants in Sydney usually have smaller private rooms, and they are usually open for dinner as well.

$450 minimum spend. Food is excellent

EDIT: Don't be put off by the fact that it is in a shopping centre.

Emporium's a pretty fancy shopping centre

true, just didn't want op to think it was a food court type of place.

  • You are going to struggle at that budget and for that number for private dining. Everywhere post pandemic has jacked their prices massively. Most have $1.5-2kish minimum spends for private dining rooms now.

    Try Ciao Cielo Port Melbourne
    They have a private room
70 maybe doable but once you crack the first bottle of wine it's all over
