Which Used 7 Seater SUV's Are The Best Value Today?

I'm trying to buy a 7 seater SUV. I've been looking on and off for a few months at everything from Kluger through to the Kodiaq and Discovery Sport. My budget is somewhere around $70k. I'd like to spend less but could also spend a bit more if needed.

We are a 4 person family (2 kids under 4) so to be perfectly honest we could manage fine with a 5 seater as well but I bought a too small car before and wary of making the same mistake again.

So my question is what is the best value used car to buy right now. I accept that with Covid and supply shortages I will be paying a huge premium but what cars do people think are selling at the least premium. To be clear though; I don't expect to get a deal just looking to see how I get the least screwed.

From what I can tell the European brands seem to be the better value although that's relative to there expensive RRP. The likes of the Kia and Skoda seem to be the most inflated with 2020 models asking well above the new RRP.

My budget is somewhere around 70k

Why not buy a new one?

I'm guessing you don't need 4WD, and this is just to move people around on bitumen?

    • Yep. No need for 4WD. Its just something to take the kids around in. Maybe commute to work if that ever happens again.

  • If you have a 70k budget why are you even looking at second hand Kias and Skodas over new, where at worst you pay RRP?

    • I don't want to wait the 12 month lead time I have been quoted. Kia reckon if I order a Sorento now I won't take delivery until early 2023.

      • That's it. Can do standing burnouts in 5th gear.

      • Just bought a 2014 Odyssey and this gave me a chuckle

probably one of the worst times in history to buy a second hand car - if you can find a new one on the lot without having to wait 3-6 months just go new if your happy to spend up to 70k it shouldnt be too difficult

Peugeot 5008 GT. Way nicer than any Kia..

Well that's bullshit. A long wheel base front wheel drive car is in no way nicer to drive than a rear wheel drive or all wheel drive car. It's also, IMO dangerous, because you get terrible understeer and lift off oversteer owing to the long wheel base. Fine for 99% of driving, but when you exceed the limits, it's the 1% that matters.

Honda Odyssey - best ranked minivan in the US

    • Better get in quick for an Odyssey. After the current model, they’re not being sold here anymor

    • But thats only for the US.

    • I had the latest Odyssey for a while. Good car.

    • I thought the Chrysler Pacifica was widely seen as the best minivan.

Yeah but in Straya everyone knows that the Kia Carnival is bigger and better.

  • You asked for best value, I reckon fortuner or pajero sport.

With no need to go for 4wd, those are horrible suggestions Neither one drives amazingly when compared to a more 'car-like' SUV

      • Actually you're right, my mind went straight to 4wd.

  • Have an Audi Q7.

    Unless you're a mechanic yourself i wouldn't recommend.

Mind you if i had one under warranty i'd be all over it.

  • GLB 200? 7 seater SUV thats in direct competition with discovery and kodiaq. The 3rd row is kinda squashy though, suited for 165cm and below and recommonded for short trips. 5 years mercedes warranty is given as standard now.

    • GLB looks like a no name Chinese car company tried to knock off a Euro styled SUV. Absolute bushpig on the eyes.

  • Couple years old Kia Sorento GT-Line will do the trick.

    • Costs more than a new 2022 sorento now….don't see any value there

  • Hyundai Pallisades is clearly the best value 7 seat SUV in your price range. Don't get the Disco Sport, it's a piece of shit. 20 year old for Mondeo underneath.

  • I've a 7 seater Mitsubishi outlander diesel
nice car. economical. it's TDI so has decent power.
    back row is decent.

  • Model Y 😷

Check out the Nissan Pathfinder. I have one and its really good , the newer model has gotten rid of the CVT so thats a huge plus.

The Hyuandai Palisade looks really good from what I have read about it.

    • yeah NAH. Not in this current petrol market, or even in the past months. 6cylinder at $2.20 per liter (average), that is going to cost an arm and a leg. Even during end-COVID pandemic at $1.80 per liter, it is still costly to drive.

But then again, if you are in the market for a $75k SUV, the PATHFINDER will be great. Surely if you can buy a vehicle of those specs then you can also spend the petrol required.

  • Just buy one YOU like. They all have advantages and disadvantages. What I think is good value, you may not.

Do you value cheaper over more features or quality vs budget? You can pretty much rule out the Euro models for ‘value’ unless you value the envy your neighbors will show when the see the luxury badge on the front.
