Stanley Air Compressor Silenced 2.75HP 50 Litre $399 + Delivery ($0 C&C/ in-Store) @ Supercheap Auto

120

Not as cheap as it has been but it's a good chunk off the RRP. Someone was looking at the Blackridge from a deal last week and I said wait until the Stanley silent compressor goes on sale and here we are! I have one of these and it's fairly quiet and has the scope to be even quieter if you want to do some mods. The tank size means you won't be spray painting whole cars in one go but if you're that serious you'd probably not be shopping at Supercheap!

  • What's the duty rated to on these?

I'm curious to know how much they differ to the old Belt drive (Pretty sure these were rated to 55mins out of 60 / ~90% duty)

75%, same as the unsilenced belt driven one they sell now, not sure about the old one. For its price, that duty cycle is pretty exceptional compared to the alternatives.

  • Anyone own one? Reviews even on the Supercheap website are fairly average. I was considering one of these Lincoln units (https://sydneytools.com.au/product/lincoln-lv30-50l-3-0hp-v-…) and I'm not sure the Stanley is much of an upgrade other than a bit of noise reduction. The lincoln also has a silenced version for the same price as the Stanley.

I have a suspicion that there's one factory in China cranking out those silent pumps and two factories making all of those different branded compressor tanks…. I was originally ogling the Chicago Air HUSH50 at Sydney Tools but it was a bit on the spendy side. If I remember correctly it was made in China anyway so I thought I'd spend less and get the Stanley when it went on special.

      • I've got the Hush 30 and they are defo telling porkies on the CFM. I don't have any way to measure the reality, but it struggles with most air tools. Can't comment on the 50, but something to keep in mind.

    • i'm contemplating also. Stanley has more pressure at 10bar vs 8 bar for the lincoln.

A whole lot of skookum if you're just playing around.

  • hey OP, could you share what kinda mods would make this compressor quieter please?
I have this compressor, bought for $200 off normal price back in October. hadn't used it much apart from pumping tires, soccer balls, basic spray painting and cleaning using the air gun and its pretty quiet except at the end of a fill when it let's off a hiss like its letting off pressure.
unfortunately I just took it back to supercheap as it developed a leak around the pressure switch and was told they'd need to send it back to the dealer for repair with the expectation of it being away for at least 2 weeks which is a massive let down.

edit: i had a ryobi and a blackridge before this and the stanley is a lot quieter while operating

  • Bought one last year (Afterpay deal) and it's been great. It's not QUIET but I've heard a lot worse.

  • Bought one thinking it would be much quieter than my old HP130-25; unfortunately it wasn't. It was actually nosier (measured with Digitech sound level meter) but as the sound was more constant due to multiple cylinders vs single cylinder it was arguably less unpleasant.

The quoted sound pressure level is at 5m, I think 1m is the more conventional (and assumed) distance to measure at, which would make a big difference.

  • I have one of these and am very please with it
