Interstate Transport of Boxes (NSW to WA)

We are moving interstate (NSW to WA) an need to transport several moving boxes (probably about 2m3). There isn't enough to justify a traditional removalist, given we will not be bringing furniture or alike with us.

I was wondering if anyone had dealt with any transport companies that do this (and indicative cost if you don't mind)? We can drop the boxes off anywhere in Sydney and can pick up at the other end (Perth). Additionally we do not need the stuff immediately so if it takes a month or so it is not the end of the world.

Thanks in advance.

  • If you can pack your gear up to fit on one or two pallets and wrap it up well with cling wrap you should be able to get most interstate companies to transport it for easily less then a grand.

    • Just measured the boxes up and could probably fit onto the one pallet. Do they typically supply a pallet or is that something I would need to source as well?

It will be cheapest if you supply your own pallet and stack it up at the transport companies depot (easily find a pallet for free in an industrial area* but don’t pinch any, just have a cruise around or ask a few bigger companies if they have old ones or check gumtree)

If you can fit it all on a normal pallet space (120x120x H* depending on the height) you should only get charged one space which for NSW- WA can be anywhere from $200-600 depending on who you use, how soon you need it and how big a company they are.
Call a few companies up and state you want depot to depot delivery and can deliver and stack your own goods and see what they offer.
(Some might even prefer you leave your boxes unstacked as they will just fit them in gaps on the trailers after they are loaded)

Bare in mind though, most transport companies doing these loads are common carriers and usually accept no liability to damage and offer no insurance.
Some may do, but many wont.

        • Thanks for the great advice.

Bunnings has hundreds of pallets in their loading bay areas. Just ring or talk to the staff, they’ll be happy to give you as many as you can take! Otherwise many industrial areas leave excess pallets on the kerb for free, but not always standard sizes.

        • Thanks for that

I used 'Seven Seas' when moving stuff from UK to Aus, they do interstate Aus as well.

Did a quote for you, 4 large boxes (61x51x41) is $309.

    • Thanks for that.
