Which 6600XT to Get? Price Predictions Next Couple Weeks

The 6600XT models have been dropping little by little for a month or so. I've watched a couple of reviews of the 6600XT but I can't decide which card to get. The sapphire pulse version seems ok although it comes with 2 years warranty and floats around the $750 to 800 mark. On the other hand, the Gigabyte eagle version sits at around $730 to 750 with some stores having specials on that specific card, this version comes with 3 years warranty and is normally priced much higher than the pulse but is cheaper to get now? Other than these two, there's the MSI mech 2x which also seems ok albeit the cheapest one out of the bunch and also looks the parts, that is, cheap. I'm looking to purchase a 6600xt under 800, preferably cheaper over the coming weeks, in your opinion, which version of the GPU should I aim to get (gigabyte, saphhire, MSI etc) and what are the upsides/downsides of particular versions/manufacturers.

ebay seems to have great coupons for plus members, I can get the 6600xt gigabyte eagle for $720 free express shipping from the scorptec store (PLUSFEB5 code)

Also, if I was to wait a couple more weeks, what are the chances the GPU will drop further? in addition, I really really want to get the 3060ti but with it being at around 1000 dollars, it is way out of my budget as the max I am willing to spend is around 850.

A bit of context, I'm looking for a new GPU because I managed to sell my gtx 1070 for a good price in December ($600 to a miner, no questions asked), when in fact, I bought this same card second hand in 2020 for $240.

  • 6600XT is a 1080p card. RTX 3060 Ti runs 1440p easily as well as significantly better tech like DLSS.

    Definitely worth waiting for one.

    • Oh my bad, forgot to mention, my monitor is 1080p and I'm not thinking of upgrading any time sooner. So 1080p gaming is my preferred resolution at this point in time. Also, my monitor has freesync.

  • Not trying to be rude however I feel like you’ve already made your decision preferring a more well know brand in Aus over another, wanting it to be cheaper than it is for your budget, and don’t need more than a 1080p card for freesync as that’s what your monitor uses.

You have to decide one last thing, but now or sit and wait for prices to come down (for which there’s no incentive for either seller, distributor or manufacturer).

It’s not a high TDP card, it won’t run hot even in a H500 and will do almost anything at 1080p.

    Hope you make your decision.

    • there's something unappealing about this specific card. How does it compare to a gigabyte eagle for $720?

      • Only thing i know is that one of popular YouTube reviewers tested all the 6600xt's and found the eagle to run the hottest, while this asrock model was in the mid range.

  • +1

I got the 6700XT of the above to replace my 1080ti KiNGPiN which died on Xmas day
I could not be happier with that card
I got the new Serious Sam game and I put the video settings to 'uber', on the 27" freesync monitor
It has FPS near 100FPS, sometimes dropping to 60FPS, but not very often
MSI Afterburner says it has 2 readings for the temps. One sits in the low 50's, the other in the low 70's
I can't hear the card make any noise & I couldn't really feel any heat coming out of the back; but I was gaming hard, or Sam was anyway :p
The card sits under the CPU and that wasn't getting hot as my mobo has lights that change when the CPU gets hot (I set it up that way)
MSI X570 ACE MEG with a massive black D15 cooling an OCed 3800X CPU in an Antec DF700 Flux case. Only warm air was coming out the top, not hot air; it is a nice little cool case with a full tinted glass side.
It has it's own lighting or you can connect to the boards special plug which the fans plug into (I forgot the name, bite me)
The pub test. Would I buy the card again? u bet u eye wood :p cheers

  • I manage a computer sales and repair store, and do new and refurbished units. We had a conversation with our suppliers regarding getting some graphics cards in and I can share that the prices are dropping very fast. For example, our supplier is desperately trying to offload 3060 stock at below their buy cost.

    • Hope what you said is true, as 3060 prices posted here still not cheap enough, maybe by Easter, we will see heaps more cheaper GPUs?

    • There's an opposing argument that retailers and suppliers of GPU's are going to hold offer selling their cards below their buy cost for a while, probably until their hand is forced and they have to clear the shelves for the next gen GPU's. Whichever way it will go, I just hope that the GPU prices can drop in price so it can be more accessible for others.

  • I'm fairly sure Sapphire Pulse comes with 3 years warranty.

Sapphire makes pretty solid cards, personally I'd probably pick Sapphire if all the base models are of the same price, or one that fits my ITX case.

Like many others have mentioned, it doesn't really matter which brand, I'd just pick the cheapest one (but if you want personal cosmetic opinions, I don't like all of ASRock's designs, nor MSI Mech, but their issues are pretty much purely cosmetic, very subjectively speaking).

    • I'm certain a store somewhere indicated a sapphires warranty as 2 years, but maybe it's just a mistake. In terms of the 6600xt model, I agree that they are all capable of cooling the card well (excluding the biostar one), however, I'm looking for an overall best card taking into account reliability, warranty, reputation, great OC/general software and more. I don't think I want the MSI mech 2x but the gaming X card looks like a strong pick albeit it's the priciest one, and something about asrock is just unappealing to me.

For some reason, the gigabyte eagle whilst being priced higher (previously) and having a 3 fan design, reviewers tend to knock it down below even the budget options like power colours offerings.

In the meantime, I'm just going to wait a little longer until the prices settle a little more. If a 3070 is selling for around 1.2K recently, I'm hoping the 3060ti drops further until it reaches sub $850 hopefully. If that doesn't happen anytime soon, let's just hope the 6600xt reduces in price a little bit to make it a worthwhile purchase.

      • Statistically speaking, most GPUs will work and continue working if it doesn't have any design or manufacturing defects from the beginning. Considering the major brands (eg Sapphire, MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte) all have 3 years warranty, the experience of reliability and warranty side of things will probably fall onto the retailer you're going to buy from. I'd say go with a retailer that's local to you if possible if prices are all similar across the different retailers, because if RMAs do arise, they'll be go through the retailer in Australia.

Software wise, they are use all the same ones regardless. You'll likely be using AMD's driver software to OC/Undervolt/finetune your 6600 XT.

While saying "best card", unfortunately you also have to pick the criteria the card is "best" in, best in value (cheapest)? Or best in look? Or best in performance/cooling? Or best overall with heavy consideration on value but also bit on look (subjective) and performance/cooling?

It does look like you have made a decision already, and if the Eagle is the lowest price or among the lowest, then sure, snap it up. It is a decent card.

Good choice on the 6600 XT as you're gaming on 1080p and the difference against 3060 Ti is only 10% on average. I personally wouldn't get the 3060 Ti if it is anything more than 15% more expensive than a 6600 XT, unless you really value DLSS/RT (DLSS at 1080p aren't great, but both cards will be able to drive everything at 1080p anyway. DLSS will be more meaningful at 1440p, but that means you also need to upgrade monitor).

The prices will eventually come down, but I'm not optimistic about the speed they'll come down (my guess is it'll gradually come down to finally reach a significant point when the next gen gets released this year), but all the very best.
