  • Anything with Usb A hub. This does not work with my Vostro. Usb C is only for storage.

Triple display should read “double display plus the one you already had”. It might be technically correct but the Dell D6000 gives me laptop plus 3 extra displays.

  • Good price but not so good reviews.
The 1 or 2 stars reviews covered most of the key features that I am after: PD issue, heating issue and USB 2.0…

  • good timing - grabbed one, thank you

  • These things use a lot of power and make a lot of heat.

If you get one, do not plan to use on battery, or accidentally leave plugged in.

The big question is, what on earth are they doing if there is nothing connected to them, to make so much heat? Surely they will get better over time when the chips they use improve

    • Yeah, this is my experience also but that said, most USB-C dongles exhibit the same symptoms. Heck, even my fancy Thunderbolt docking station draws a lot of power and the power brick will heat up a bit after a while.

This Pluggable 7-in-1 gets toasty enough (not hot but reasonably warm) that it impacted my wireless mouse dongle that's plugged into it. The signal interference forced me to attach the dongle via a USB extension which fixed the problem.

      • According to Plugable, this is normal:

It is expected to observe that the aluminium shell of the USB-C hub gets warmer, particularly if the USB-C passthrough charging and/or all ports on the hub are utilised.

Internal testing has measured and validated operating temperatures of up to 125°F / 52°C with our USB-C hubs, which is well below the maximum rated temperature of various integrated chipsets (IC) in our USB-C hub of 212°F / 100°C

In summary, please note that heat is not an indication of an issue or defect with the USB-C hub

I guess with the higher power rating of these hubs (compared to non-powered USB-A equivalents of old) it's not unreasonable to expect them to run heaps warmer

        • At times, if it is controlling voltage or current. But there's little need for it to do it just because it's powered up, as they all seem to do

  • Is there a reliable usb-c hub with a few USB-A ports and sd card port only and that does not heat up too much? All my previous ones were dead within six months.

these cheap hubs dont last long. i gave up on them and just bot one that comes with a 3yr warranty locally from the PC shop. price different ard $10-$15 more. silicon power was the one i chose and working well so far. alogic seems like another decent brand. key is the warranty and ease of return/refund
