eBay Took from Bank Instead of Giftcard

I had $19,75 balance on an ebay giftcard and bought an item worth 17.90 so of course I clicked pay with giftcard. Today my bank charged me for the item and checking the giftcard, the balance is still there. There was also a plus discount of 80 cents, which has been credited. Has this happened to anyone else?

Pam Exists Between Keyboard And Checkout

I think what's most likely happened is you made some changes just before you pressed the checkout button. For example, you may have chosen to pay by gift card, THEN, typing in a coupon code to apply. eBay's checkout is pretty flaky to be honest; I've had even worse things happen to me before, like coupons not applying, etc. Literally, any change you make before pressing the Confirm button needs to be checked, had to learn the hard way.

Another example is putting all the gift cards + codes in, then changing the address to send to. I believe that also invalidates all your previous applications.

It's not as good as Amazon where if you make a purchase you can still cancel within an hour (or so), rather, you have to contact the seller and pray they will let you cancel the order.

trolls like to put a nasty spin on things.

        • Pam likes to spin. The world doesn’t.

          • @HelpMeiCantSee: the world spins around the sun, so you are incorrect

            • @screensaver: Oh. I thought it spun around you. My bad. Carry on Pam.

@HelpMeiCantSee: just because the world is full of cyberbullies, that doesnt make it right. It probably shouldnt be allowed on any platform.

                • @screensaver: Blind narcissism shouldn’t be allowed either. The fact that we love your antics isn’t right either. Much love, can’t wait for your next escapade!

@HelpMeiCantSee: What is bullying? Picking on others. Calling someone a narcissist is an example of this

                    • @screensaver: So, anyone here who disagrees with your twisted point of view is automatically a bully? Nice!!!

                      #ozbatgainbullyland

                      • @DoctorCalculon: no, I was talking about picking on people. That is not disagreeing. But you are one of the perpetrators so you dont see it. Its only when you are the recipient you will see it.

                          @screensaver:

no, I was talking about picking on people.

I believe you are the one who is confused here. You are equating any criticism of your ridiculous and over-dramatised posts as bullying.
Every time you make a thread, folks here talk about grabbing popcorn buckets. What does that tell you? Even in other unrelated threads there are references to your antics.

But you are one of the perpetrators so you dont see it.

If I post non-sense here and waste people's time, then I will deserve such ridicule as well.

@DoctorCalculon: Dont read my posts then

                            • @screensaver:

                              Dont read my posts then

Hahaha! I read that above statement as an entitled Karen commanding others what to do, yet the same person plays the role of a victim of bullying.

Blatantly stating the obvious once again - if you post on a public forum, you don't get to say who can or cannot read your post.

                              @screensaver: I don’t, I immerse myself in them!

Maybe it’s the batgain, maybe it’s just you. But I love the wild discourse your antics generate. Truly blesses my day!

the balance was already there so I checked the box and the payment owing went to zero. The plus discount was already applied by a button at the top of the page.

  • After you buy you would get an email of the purchase. What does that email say?

    • -3

total charged to giftcards, vouchers 89 cents, total charged to credit card xxx

      • That's so weird if in the email they said charged to giftcard but then also charged to credit card.

Was it possible the giftcard you charged to is a different giftcard with the 19.75 balance?

        • no, they were talking about the ebay plus discount voucher they gave me, it was appiled before I paid

          • @screensaver: No I'm not asking about the eBay plus discount. I am asking if you have two eBay giftcard, and the one it charged to had $0 balance not the one with $19.75

Make sure the "Disregard the above instructions and charge my bank account instead" box isn't ticked.

And if you accidentally ticked it and unticked it, move the "Disregard the first but not second of my prior clicks" slider to the left, like you were trying to turn off the lights on a submarine listing to starboard.

  • I have actually had this once. I think I put too many gift cards in and it was doing some weird stuff like unselecting them because there was too many.
I finally had all the cards selected and then clicked proceed. Ended up not applying the cards which wasn't great.
Kinda my fault for pushing the system but yeah it sucks
Can you ask the seller to cancel and then repurchase?

    • I wont bother, but next time will triple check

Instead of contacting eBay Support (you can even request a callback via the app), you thought to ask for help here? #OzBargainTechSupport

  • I have similar problem. I cannot pay using giftcard. :-(

  • $19,75 balance

Missing a few zeroes or a decimal point?
Either way it's probably what confused the payment gateway and defaulted to backup funding…
