What item has an everyday/regular price that makes it worthy of being an OzBargain?

Obviously depends on the individual and what they value, but what do YOU think?

If you want Frozen mangoes, always it's ALDI to go first. Best quality at best price. like around $6.5 a Kilo vs like Woolworths Macro organic frozen mangoes which are like $9 half a kilo.
Normal Woolworths/Coles branded frozen mangoes are crap quality so sour etc.

    • Do you still eat frozen instead of fresh during mango season?

      • Yea most of the times, because they still work out to be way cheaper, and less work, aka just deicing under water and halilueya mango ready,
No pealing, no cutting, no binning etc.

Where is the frozen Aldi mango sourced? In Colesworth, they are usually from Vietnam/Chile/various origins. Although not the Aldi brands, the following link shows there's always the chance of contracting Hepatitis A

          https://inspection.canada.ca/food-recall-warnings-and-allerg…

          Fresh certainly reduces this risk.

          • @forrester: Aldi's frozen mangoes are from

ORCHARD & VINE (product of Vietnam it says on package), also says Ingredients - Mangoes 100%.

Defrosted mango kinda ruins the texture compared to fresh. Frozen is good for smoothies though.

coke zero in woolworths often on sale for $2.40 for 4 mulitpack glass bottle- thats like 60c/bottle
wai wai noodles from asian shop- cheaper

    • I have heard those 36 cans coke @amazon are usually cheaper ?

    • It's usually always cheaper to get a 2L bottle than a pack of cans though. The only reason you'd do cans is for freshness (ie not going flat).

yeh but thats the whole point though- i rather drink fresh coke zero that flat- flat just is tastless!

        • Should taste the same.

Costco do $9.99/kg Chicken Thigh (Steggles) which is decent, given Woolies and Coles are about $12.50/kg
Not a huge difference, but given that my family consumes 2-3kg a week, it adds up and saves us a few hundred a year.

The specials there are generally good - they did Steggles Tempura Chicken nuggets 2kg for just under $15 the end of last year. Imo they taste better than the woolies ones (juicer and use an actual breast piece)
Plus the rotisserie chicken for $6.99 and cheap petrol (usually 20c cheaper than the going rate) is a bonus.

Frozen dumplings eg xiaolongbao, har gow, siu mai etc from Asian supermarkets like Tong Li, Miracle…kids smash them down like lollies, so much cheaper than going out to yum cha

We once got the big bags from Chinatown, but took too much source in the freezer, plus it made us over eat 😂

Asian butchers; really cheap cuts of meat. There's a good one in Eastwood (Sydney).

Can get prices half of that from Harris Farm, Woolies, etc.

    • +2

Usually only for pork though right? And also with the recent increases in meat prices is it still that much cheaper?

The Asian butchers though are good if you want cuts that the big supermarkets don't sell.

The "by Laurent" bread at Coles. Usually $5 for the full loaf and often on special for $4. Coles just needs to improve on the packaging as the paper rips easily when opening.

    2L milk no brand

Colesworth or Aldi brand 1L ice cream.

Supermarket brand rolled oats. Around $1.50 for just under a kg and so good for you!

    • I mix the rolled oasts with trail mix in my yogurt. I recently found crushed roastedpeanuts in the baking isle (like the ones you put on ice cream). They add a nice flavour

Whoever has fresh chook for less than $5 kilo is my deal!

I remove the skin, cut it in pieces, and render the fat out. I nom the crispy chook-bacon (yum!) and reserve the fat for roast potatoes (yum!). Then, I drop the chicken into the slow cooker resting on quartered onions and potatoes. When done, remove all bones, add the meat back and continue cooking with whichever curry spices/paste you prefer. I usually add a can of coconut milk towards the end.

Or, roast the chook in the covered grill (I use a Weber) enjoy the crispy skin, nom the wings/legs, use the meat in wraps or whatever— then the bones go into the slow cooker w/onion, celery, water to cover. Cook, strain & wait overnight for one last skim. That broth makes THE best base for tomato soup (super-yum). I generally keep an eye out for cheap or mark-down carrot/potato/tomatoes, too (nearly always find them). No waste, and it's all healthy and scrumptious. :)

Huge fan of 2L Oak Flavoured Milk.

It is something like $4.50 for 2L which is $2.25/L for pretty tasty drink.

Whatever you cannot finish just put it in the fridge.

Only thing cheaper than this is actual milk or water.
