Why Is IKEA's Basin Tap Mixer Bad Compared to Their Kitchen Tap?

Ikea sells a kitchen mixer for $35 which is great. It's metal and long:

But if you want to buy a basin mixer, which is even smaller and should have less materials in it, they sell it only in black colour and it's made of plastic:

Also the rest of the basin mixers are significantly more expensive.

Anyone know why this is? I want to buy some basin mixers but not sure where to buy them now. The cheapest at Bunnings for $32 had bad reviews, particularly talking about longevity:

  • 10 year guarantee vs 2 years on the kitchen one. It might be "plastic vs metal" but it seems Ikea think the plastic will last a lot longer.

  • We've used ikea taps and have always found them to be good.

  • Well made kitchen and bathroom mixer taps normally sell for $150+, i think you have pretty high expectations for $35.
Id buy a German made tap made from quality parts.
