Brand New Galaxy S8/S9 on eBay?

There seems to be a number of prior iterations of Samsung Galaxy phones selling brand new on eBay.

Has anyone bought one of these phones and how legitimate are they? I would have thought these phones stopped being manufactured years ago, unless these have just been stored for years. The sellers have good ratings.

Here's an example of one:

    Yep really sounds brand new…

    And another:

Very honest and helpful seller. The phone was brand new but unfortunately had an issue out of the box and was faulty. The seller helped with initial troubleshooting but when that did not solve the problem, they organised for the phone to be returned and refunded quickly and without hassle. It's a shame the phone didn't work but thank you for your help nonetheless and I hope to be able to buy again from you in the future!

    New phone has an issue?

And another. Why the hell are people giving pos feedback for this?

Phone was US model but was otherwise new as described. I had to return due to network issues but they gave a refund and communicated very well and in a timely fashion, turning it into a relatively painless process. Thanks!

Yeah looks a bit sketchy with how divergent some of the reviews are.

Might just go refurbished and get a new battery.

    • Maybe they do pos feedback as neg feedback is deleted

Legit or not, you're talking phones that don't receive any security updates for Android anymore. Not a purchase I'd be considering very seriously given that aspect alone.

I'd get a newer mid range phone.
Have an s9+ and the lack of updates irks me along with buying a 'brand new' 3+ year old phone

Not the S8 or S9, but got a brand new LG G6 off eBay for around $160 2 years ago. It was the direct Android competitor to the S8 but it was a lot cheaper on eBay; eBay 'brand new' S8s were going for $300-$500.

Had numerous problems with the G6: the fingerprint sensor playing up, having to flash to a different ROM (long story about MAC address issues), and then it randomly dying on me one day after about 9 months of use. Spent hours trying to fix it, no luck. Had similar issues with my dad's 'brand new' LG V30 off eBay (different seller mind you).

Ended up getting a new Poco X3 Pro around 3 months ago, which I'm using right now. Works perfectly, and it was only released around half a year ago so updates are a given at least for another few months.

Don't go the old flagship route; you may think that the screen or camera is going to be better than current midrange devices, but speaking from experience, it's the other way around. Hope this helped a bit.

  • Why not get something like Oppo A74 5G https://www.jbhifi.com.au/products/oppo-a74-5g-128gb-fluid-b…
That even gets you $100 worth Oppo wireless earbuds ?
