Any suggestions for a good yet reasonable men's suit hire for a wedding and reception in three weeks where the invitation indicates the attire is "cocktail" ?

Does anyone actually do that kind of thing anymore…? It's almost cheaper to just buy a suit. Even the cheapies look good for 1 off events
Cocktail means suit. so any suit and pants would fit in. Weddings are a bit more casual now. Don't stress.

OP might be confusing 'cocktail' with 'black tie', which basically means tuxedos for men.

Or the bride & groom haven't received sufficient RSVPs noting attendance & OP received a last minute invitation??

This time of year black slacks and a collared button shirt will do the trick.
Cheap and nasty suits go to Taro Cash or Connor. They will fix you up for under $100
