Commbank: Did The Bank have second thoughts?

Hey OZB'ers,

In Nov 2021 I applied for a low fee gold card at CBA and was approved for $2X,XXX after docs were sent etc.

Unfortunately, shortly thereafter I had to take care of a family situation interestate and was gone until recently.

I noticed a few days ago that the card was removed from Netbank app and called CBA who advised as it went past 90 days and was unactivated so I had to apply again.

The account was closed and no chance of it being reopened.

They could not field queries regarding any negative affects on my credit rating etc. or when to reapply etc ('Wish we could, but we are not financial advisers')

I applied again and was approved conditionally for 1/4 the original amount.

Interesting CreditSavvy still shows that unactivated card as active and in my account.

How much damage have I done applying again 3 months later?

I am looking for another card with a bigger line of credit - my Finder rating is 825.

Do I need to wait 6 months before applying again?

I have emailed CBA (that docs email) but no doubt will recieved a canned response.

Thank you.

    Hi,
It is possible that the Limit you were granted was because the original $2X,XXX was added to it and reduced.

  • Overthinking it
You took out a card, didn't activate it, in this case the banks done nothing wrong.

Your credit score will recover soon enough, not a big deal. (generally if you repay it it recovers, however as you had no chance to repay it the negative effect of the credit check will still be there.)

    Just wait it out.
