PS5 Controller Warranty - JB Hi-Fi or Sony?

Hi all,

Is warranty through the retailer aka JB Hi-Fi or Sony?

I emailed JB, I'm waiting. Do I wait for that, or contact Sony?

I don't have stick drift, it automatically jerks my right thumb stick. Basically it's moving itself automatically throughout gaming play.

I Googled everything and tried different fixes excluding manually taking apart the controller. It's only 6 months old, my PS4 controller has minor stick drift after years of use, nothing to this extent which makes gaming impossible.

Thank you

You have the option of both. I would pop into JB HiFi store with your receipt and hope they replace it on the spot with a brand new one (EB Games did for my snapped R2 trigger one).

If no luck, you can try another store or contact Sony directly for a replacement to be shipped to you. Your choice really.

    • Harvey Norman replaced my DualSense on the spot after it had a mushy O button.

      Thank you

I'll call the store or drop-in next week.

      • When did you buy, and when did the issue show up?
It's going to be a different experience if you bought it 1 week ago as opposed to 11 months ago.

edit: only just saw you write it's 6 months old.

        • Yeah, it's the controller I got with the PS5. I actually haven't used it that much either.

I have a spare one in box from amazon I bought, as a spare.

  • I had the same issue with the dualsense, went through Sony for the replacement. The process was pretty quick.

Did you have to pay shipping?

  • Wait for Sony or hopefully on the spot at JB. Your choice.

  • Both but thank you for creating a post 🤦‍♂️

    • Thank you for reading.

Some people are wrong here. It is JB's choice whether they replace or not. They have the choice to replace it or send you to the manufacturer for replacement. JB will assess whether it is a major or minor fault. If they, not you, determine that it is a minor fault, they will send you to Sony to sort it out. If JB say it is a major fault, then they might replace it on the the spot. But make to mistake, you do not have the power to decide. The retailer does. Read the Consumer Law. It has so many "might's" and 'may's" making it greyer than an overcast day.

  • Update.

JB were amazing to deal with!

Sony actually told me that JB couldn't replace my controller (I had to ship it to them), but the girl at JB rang Sony directly and management and told me to go straight into the store and they would organise it

    Easy!

  • Update 2.

Amazon was super easy, to be honest I thought they wanted to get rid of me.

Shipped replacement controller out the following day, and send me an email with a barcode to scan when I bring the old controller to Auspost in original box.

Hopefully these new controllers are updated.
