Help me choose a microwave

Before everyone jumps in to say LG Neochef, because believe me I wanted to buy that but I'm buying this for a new house move where wifi will be used a lot more than it currently is, so having wifi impacted each time the microwave is in use won't really be suitable. I can say the kitchen is at the end of the house and for the most part, most wifi will occur in the middle to other end of the house so maybe it wouldn't be so bad - unless someone could confirm, I'm going to need other recommendations.

Budget up to $250.
30-42L size would be ideal.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Neochef near in my open living and does not impact as much as people say.

Great microwave haha. Not what you want to hear 😂

    • Same, I've never noticed any issue

  • I come to OzBargain to save money, now here I am shopping for an LG Neochef when I have 2 perfectly functional microwaves (that are hell ugly compared to my new Neochef I'm getting).

  • If you use 5GHz wifi as you should, you won't be affected at all.

    • True, as I will, and 6GHz when I get the new router. But there are some devices that need to run off 2.4GHz still so there's that… But I'm still open to getting the Neochef and testing it out, as the layout of this house might make it all okay. Microwave basically in 1 corner of the house.

      • You can also minimize interference by choosing a different channel.

  • I like something around 500mm at 1GHz or so.

    • Good luck, with the shipping issues now you'll only be able to find the 1GHz model in the 299.7925mm variety.

  • I'm not a huge fan of the NeoChef, mostly because of the wifi thing (it kills everything on 2.4 and bluetooth anywhere near it… sucks if you are listening to music with headphones while you cook) and the fact the interface only allows 10s intervals sometimes I want 25s darn it!

That being said I like the little tune it makes when its ready and it does defrost meat rather well. Still liked our old microwave better, though the NeoChef does look a heap better in the kitchen.

  • What the heck, I'll get the LG Neochef as given the layout of the new house it might not be so problematic.

I noticed there are 2 slightly different 42L models - 4236 & 4290. The difference appears to be in the door design only, the 4236's door is shorter and closes next to the display whilst the 4290 closes over the displace providing another glass display. Or at least that appears to be the differences I could find.

I have the MS4296OBS (one with longer door covering button). I can confirm that having kitchen to one side of the house, I have never experienced any noticeable issues with WiFi.

      • Now that's music to my ears, thanks!

  • From what I am hearing LG have a number of QC issues, and retailers are having massive delays in having Faulty stock returned etc. As much as 6 months of faulty items waiting.

The problem is you can't hear from the people who have no issues at all, so it's hard to gauge whether or not there really is an unusual issue. The more popular a device, the more issues you'll hear about because more people have them.

    • Thanks for the link.

I've decided on this variant of LG Neochef, I like the jog wheel for easy add/remove cook time
      https://www.thegoodguys.com.au/lg-42l-1200w-neochef-inverter…

      • I know what you mean about the jog wheel, it is also another electronic part that does not break
The Good Guys are good (don't tell me I made a pun? Was it any good? I will go & stand in the corner now)

        • Perhaps only because I'm a dad will I say it was a great pun and one I will impart on my daughter at the next opportunity.

Agreed, one less thing to go wrong. Physical buttons and knobs are disappearing from everything now including new cars. Until Hey Google can cook on voice instruction, I want buttons and knobs damnit.

@Click_It: I am just old. I wish my 10 month old kitten had buttons & knobs, something to play with on a (profanity). That was no profanity, when I saw what Oz Bargain did to my post; that was profanity I let fly
