Mid-Range Phone Recommendation to Replace Moto G7 Plus March 2022

Dropped my Moto G7 Plus over the weekend and am looking for recommendations for a replacement. I've always liked the as close to stock Android experience as possible, and have liked Motorola's small enhancements to the OS.

Usage is phone functions, basic productivity such as email, messaging. Camera doesn't have to be amazing, dual SIM is a must, headphone jack preferred. Internal or extendable storage isn't a big factor.

The Moto G 5G seemed good, but doesn't look like it's available anymore, the Moto G51 looks too big for my liking, the G31 looks OK for the price, but reviews have been reporting lagging and the charging is slow.

Does anyone have any recommendations - budget $300 - $600 (edit: or thereabouts)

Thanks in advance

      Yep - great phone

    • M4 Pro is cheaper on pre-order right now.

For your budget: Samsung A52s is a good choice, AMOLED screen, 5G, 50% faster than G51 (a few times faster than your current phone), decent cameras, about the same size as your Moto, 128GB Storage, Water Resistant IP 67, Guaranteed 3 OS version updates. Price: $54x at various outlets at the moment.

    • Motorola was a good choice BUT they seldom update the OS on the phone (I don't think they update Moto G 5G to Android 12). Also, the screen (LCD) and cameras on Moto G 5G are no match to Samsung A52s.

    • Thanks, will check this out. I can get it on Telstra for $480 + points that have been sitting around for ever.

Is Samsung's software still bad, or have they got better now?

I used to hate Samsung software, but I think One UI 3+ are one of the best Android out there. No more heavy skin overlay these days. Why not visit a retail store and play with it a bit. Not many phone has IP67 at this price point either….a dry phone is a happy phone and will last you sometime.

      • Wait until this Thursday and it will be even lower price than $480 on Telstra Day!

    Oppo A54 or A74 5G.

I upgraded from a Moto G6 and have been fairly happy.

    • A74 looks good. Any downsides? What's the software like?

I miss the moto mods such as the chop chop motion for the flashlight and the wave to wake display. Also doesn't have suggested replys to text messages.

The camera and screen are better than the Moto G51, plus it's a bit smaller. I wanted an LCD as I don't like the grainy look of most AMOLED displays.

Suggested replies to text message? Wow, I assumed they were just part of Android now. I also like the chop chop for the light, very simple, very useful.

I had a look at the OPPO A74 5G phone this morning in Officeworks.

Plenty of bang for your buck, thinking seriously about making a purchase.
