Purchasing from Costco Online Without a Membership?

I have found an item significantly cheaper online at Costco vs anywhere else, the nearest store is over an hour from my place so it wouldn't be viable to become a member.

Is there any ways to purchase online or trials I can use for 1 product purchase?

Say if you were to sign up - you can ask for a refund of the membership fee anytime within the 12 months.

I’ve been told if you do this, you cannot join again for 12 months

Well don't cancel the subscription then….

      • you cannot join again for 12 months

Correct. Not under the same name on your ID until you are off the 12-month ban list.

    • Ooo really, can you link me to this info?

It is in the T&Cs when you go through the membership process:

RETURN POLICY FOR CHANGE OF MIND
On membership: we will refund your membership fee in full at any time for any reason if you are dissatisfied.

        • Yep, I just cancelled mine yesterday after I found the treadmill I wanted isn't delivered to my suburb

Even if it's in the T's and C's I fell like abusing this will cause them to close this loop hole

      • It isn't a 'loophole' when it is clearly stated:
"…at any time for any reason…"

        • Even if it's in the T's and C's I fell like abusing this will cause them to close this loop hole change their T's and C's

@JoeBogan: It isn't abusing it. It is a stated T&C. Costco know what they put in their T&Cs.

What they haven't stated is the potential impacts on any future membership application should you avail of this offer.

  • What type of product/item is it? Not all items on their online store require membership to purchase.

    • Its a cat tree!

A tree made from cats? Bit harsh mate.

It used to be the items showing a price were available and the rest had ‘Member item only’ where the price should be.

However I’ve just tried one with a price shown not logged in to my account and it wouldn’t let me. So I don’t know sorry.

I’ve previously purchased an electric scooter without membership but have since joined because the prices seemed good.

        • Thanks!

Ah yes, I see 'Member Only Item' showing with no price against some products.

We don't live near a Costco store nor do we have the pantry space to take advantage of the upsized products so membership isn't a consideration.

  • Simple .
1)Walk in with a member at the entrance .
    2) Grab a member at the checkouts .

    • Technically speaking any purchase card should align with the name of the Costco member. I'm not sure too many Costco members would be happy to have someone tag along with them at the checkout.

Get a friend, who is a member, to buy you a giftcard. They can keep topping it up for you.

    • If you have, say a $100 gift card, but you spend $200 in store, can you pay the remaining on a normal credit card?

      • I doubt it.

      • Yes. You can. Had done it a number of times

        • If you are a member I could understand that.

      • Yep, did that just yesterday. Spent $300, $30 on gift card, rest of CC.

        • As a non member?

          • @try2bhelpful: Yeah, membership lapsed last year. We usually pick up a dozen $30 gift cards beforehand and hope it's enough for another year lol

            • @RandomNinja: Something for people to keep in mind. I would think they would ask for your pass to use your CC.

      • I have had this scenario arise twice. First time they said the remainder had to be paid in cash, not by credit card. Second time there was no issue with my credit card being fine.

Is your saving more than the $60 membership fee?

    • +1

Don't forget to factor "I got what I want and don't have to mess around anymore" into your saving

People undervalue their time, until they've had to drive across town and they're cramming the third best but more expensive cat tree into their hatchback in the rain

      • People undervalue their time

Yes I'm amazed at the effort people put into price matching to save $5 by price matching at some megastore place with RRP, rather than reward/support the store that offered the cheap price up front. I do wonder what they'll do once all the stores with cheap prices they didn't reward disappear so there is no one to price match to.

          Probably come here to complain.

      • Also their time stuffing around discussing it here.

If you live near a Costco then you should join just for the chickens, also those hotdogs with the onion grinder are legit.

    • +2

Real ozbargain users don't even have memberships, just walk into the food court area and buy your $2 hotdog meal! No questions asked at the counter.

  • These people will shop at Costco on your behalf. Might not be worth it for just one item though, when you add the delivery charge:

  • it's cheaper in store >_<
