    • Thank you. Looks like someone updated the subject line already! :-)

Aren't these going to be stale?

    • +1

They usually have a decent expiry date. IMO they last well; I usually purchase 2 bags and don't notice any taste differences toward the end of the second bag.

I agree. Lavazza beans are ALWAYS stale, no matter where/how you buy them. Run it through an espresso machine and see how there's little to no crema. This is your telltale sign. Beans start to stale around 4 weeks after roasting. Three weeks in they are at their peak. Anything in these bags will be probably 3-9 months old. Thanks, but no thanks.

I got plenty of crema from Lavazza Oro beans last time i ordered from amazon. Though i did have to change my grind size from other beans i was using. I have had stale beans before and the last lot i bought were not stale.

There are definitely better beans out there though and i was just trying these to see how they were. Taste is subjective, for me these have a decent taste profile but didn't really make me want to buy them again.

        • Depends on your luck I suppose. Sometimes you might get shipping off a drop that was just sent to the warehouse. Costco seems to have it down pat, their 1kg bags in shop often seem to be right out of the factory. Every bag I've ever bought from there has been ultra fresh. But nobody knows distribution like costco.

  • How are these compared to the regular Aldi beans?

    • +2

Haven't tried this one bu personally prefer Lavazza Espresso Barista Intenso then Aldi beans, which are currently 1/2 price in Coles.
I'm surprised Amazon haven't met the price :-(

    • Well if these don't have a roast date they will likely be stale as mentioned above, and if you are lucky/savvy you can get Aldi's Lazzio beans 3,4 weeks from roast date.

      • How many months before the expiry date is the roast date for Aldi beans?

        • Not sure but I bought a 500g bag from Aldi on Monday and expiry date is 5 April 2023.

        • Up to 2 years

      • It has both on the pack, just have to decipher it. I think it's like 15 months or something.

        • If i've deciphered correctly, the pack I bought was roasted 22 Jan 2022 at 13:05

don't have a roast date they will likely be stale

You should roast your own, so you can lord it over the other coffee snobs. Micro-roast one dose at a time even.
I hear people use those cheap popcorn machines. Seriously.

        • Thanks, not really into "lording" other people lol, just of the understanding from what I've been told by coffee "lords" that coffee is best consumed between 1 to 5 weeks after roasting.

@nepalesesquirrel: Coffee from local roaster goes into bag along with air so oxidation starts on the way home ….the prepackaged volume roasters pack with nitrogen so oxidation starts when you open the bag hence some have on way valve let nitrogen out and no air in ……

    • Aldi Single origin far better than these.

    • Never tried these, but Airjo is much better than Aldi dark or single origin we tried. Never ever buying Aldi again.

These ones are better than Aldi beans IMO

    • maybe from the regular beans… but Aldi Single origin far better than these, same price as well.

    • These ones are better than Aldi beans IMO

      Doubt that.

You get what you pay for

Except with Aldi beanz. $12 per kg.

  • Is this available in a ground option?

Anyone know if the special Vittoria beans eg Oro special bar would be fresh when ordered from their website?

    • +1

I rang Vittoria and supermarket stock leaves their warehouse less than 1 week after roasting and its nitrogen packed ……

You'd rather fork out a few more dollars for any of the deals that get posted here (Lime Blue is good), Lavazza coffee is crap.

  • Mine just arrived. Date on the bottom reads 5982/02/19
Does that translate to roast date of 19th Feb?
