Cadbury Roses Boxed Chocolate 450g $8 ($4 if you are lucky) (RRP $16) @ Coles

930

I saw the larger boxes of Roses chocolates are discounted from $16 to $4. This works out to be $8.90 a kg, so good value for chocolate. The two stores I saw it in were in Sydney but assume nationwide.

Edit - The price is now showing as $8 online, so assume they have removed the sale. The original yellow discount may be still present in some stores for the $4 price.

It blows my mind that they still make these. They're garbage.

    • +14

I'm no connoisseur, but definitely has some nostalgia value for me when its at this price.

      • +5

$4 is cheap for sure. I still think I'd enjoy 4×$1 bars more though. There's a point where it's not worth the calories / loss of a friendship :p

If you gift it away, mark the box. Its destined for the same shenanigans as panettone.

        • +5

Maybe stock up for those family members you don't like very much but feel obliged to give birthday gifts to.

Be prepared for your nostalgia to be ruined. They changed the recipe's of most of the flavours a few years ago and been total garbage since

        • +1

Agreed. The wrapping is annoying and most of the new flavours are crap. Nothing like they used to be

      • +1

How can you be nostalgic given the flavours are all new as of a few years ago? They don't even do twist wrappers anymore.

        • +3

I guess I'm nostalgic for the purple box. Having my nostalgia ruined is probably a good thing, will make me stick to my diet next time.

    • Can someone recommend good chocolate made in or available here? Please do not talk about British Cadbury or US M&M or products that aren't readily or usually available here. Thanks.

      • +1

I like Koko Black, Haig’s and the Noosa Chocolate factory but they are not cheap. Lindt and Toblerone are good value but only when they are on special (which is often). I find Aldi chocolate to be surprisingly OK if you want a budget option.

But to be honest, I am going to go against the sentiment of others who have commented here because I actually really like most of the new Roses chocolates much better than the old ones. The old ones had a funny fake chemical taste and the texture/mouth feel was just off for me - but I am a super taster and tend to experience flavours differently to most people. I tend not to follow the food recommendations of others because taste is subjective and we all like different things.

Ever since they changed the chocolates inside these have been rubbish

    • +2

Agreed. They went for cheaper ingredients and manufacturing process

  • +4

Yes no nostalgia here, nothing like they used to be, even contacted Cadbury and advised them of this, according to their tasters the new version is much better and wont be changing. I for one will not be purchasing again. Did not enjoy neither did the family.

I hate it when I get these as a present now. Totally crap…I try and regift if I can.

  • +4

No way I would ever pay $16 for these - ever.

Some of these RRP's are a joke

  • +4

I haven't had these for years, and had no idea they'd changed them. Now I suddenly nostalgic for something I didn't care about a minute ago 😏

    • Try the new ones, I prefer them to the old ones. You might be surprised. At this price it’s not a big loss if you don’t like them.

At nearby Coles there was a sticker saying it was on sale for $10 (could be old tag?). Scanned for $4. Thanks so much!

  • +1

The price is excellent, but the chocolates simply aren't.

  • +5

Thank you very much for your cheap donation,
Thank you very much, not very much.

Many will not get this comment.

Thank you very much for feeding William…

    good value for chocolate

"Good value for flavoured sugar" is probably more accurate. 😜

  • Thanks OP

Coles north Perth had them marked at $4 on the ticket but scanned at $8.
The assistant at self checkout fixed the price and gave me 1 for free due to scanning error.
Got 3 boxes for $8. Don’t love the chocolates since they changed the recipes, hopefully find some use for them

On second thought, these are actually quite useful. Bring out a fancy box of chocolates at a family dinner and everyone can discuss how bad the chocolates are compared to how they used to be.
Beats listening to people discussing politics

    • You did well - at my local marked at $8, scanned at $8. I guess I haven't had them for years, still remember them tasting good…. back they went….

  • +2

Terrible now they have the little hard pieces in them. I feel like my teeth will break eating them.
    Milk tray is much better.

  • +3

The UK version of these still has some good flavours.
The new Aussie flavours seem to be universally disliked. Don’t get why they changed them

    • Had some while in the UK over Xmas and the quality was good compared to the disgusting local version - horrible!

    • $18.99 from Catch is a bit rich considering they expire 31/3/22
maybe not a problem for ozbargain though, smash it in one sitting

  • +1

great for extra filling for Easter hampers…

The Huns of markdown addicts Australia have posted this deal up, didn't take long.

    • Is OzBargain the only deals website in Australia?

  • The website has them at $8 ( from $16 ). Looks like its only certain stores that have them at $4.

    • You are right, the price has now gone up from $4 to $8 on the website, at the time of posting it was definitely $4. Some stores may still have the ticket from yesterday displayed.

      • Yep I ordered a whole bunch yesterday and they got delivered today for $4 each :)

    • Pricing error. It was never meant to be $4

      • bastards must have picked up on it when there higher than usual orders.

Cadbury Fredo milk chocolate original is pretty yummy, I think. I also love Twirl? Not sure about the brand name. I love to eat bit size or good size chocolate size to put and melt in one go. It is easy to eat rather than long chocolate bar. Reason is because I ended up eating the whole chocolate bar in one sitting. Oh same same thing with Pringles.

  • expired, price went back to $8 before i buy,..
