4U even balance pre-strung. Best value beginner racquet IMO.

    • thank you, this is definitely on my list.

  • Depends on your budget really. Can't go wrong with Yonex. Might be worth going to a proper badminton store to have a look and a swing.

    • trying not to spend over $150. seeing a lot of great yonex options in the $80-$100 range. i think i'm either going to go head heavy or balanced after doing a little bit of research.

Racket suitability depends on your playing style. But if you don’t want to spend too much, from this list the cheapest intermediate you may consider is Yonex astrox 99 play

    • FML, it cost $99 and free shipping is $100+

great recommendation, i think i will get it.

      • Buy a $10 accessory to go over $100.

It would make the accessory 'free'.

      • The play would be my preferred option for $99. Get an overgrip to take it over $100.

Depending on who you play with (ie if you can borrow a racquet) consider getting the arcsaber lite as a spare racquet for when your strings break.

  • It's really hard to buy badminton racket online. You really need to feel it yourself. Best is to head in store. Otherwise, I suggest you ask nicely and try a few of your friend's racket. See which one you like and buy the exact same one.

Most player has a few rackets in the bag, as the string tends to break in the middle of a game, or worse, the racket itself. Just try a few if possible, then decide.

    • ok, thank you. i have an idea of what i think i would like, but i will hold off buying and try my friends this weekend. im getting trigger happy on buying something so i can use it for this weekend, but i will hold off 1 more week and try different rackets. im kinda leaning towards head heavy, because i want to smash like a maniac, lol.

      • Yonex Astrox 88D Pro

        • whoa, that is a $250 racket. maybe when im good, lol.

right now the astrox 99 play is a front runner for me, and looks sexier. lol. hopefully someone has one similar so i can try it this weekend and make my final decision.

  • Hi @Hugh G Rection, Can I ask you which one did you buy and how do you feel about it? I've also recently started playing badminton and looking for something beginner or intermediate for around $100 mark. Thanks.

    • decathlon is great. there 500 series is there mid tier and great. 900 series is there pro models. i use to laugh at decathlon stuff, but it is actually really really good at a fantastic price.

i play 99 astrox pro now, but i wouldn't recommend getting it if you aren't good. im a smasher. lots of power. im pretty advanced now.

get a light racquet to start. dont get a power racquet. work on ur skills first.

      • Great, thanks. I'll look at the decathlon 500 range.
