Purchasing a OnePlus 9 Pro

Im looking at purchasing a OnePlus 9 pro and looking for feedback for the best place to purchase. I know the general feeling about Kogan/Dick Smith on OZ - but they are on the list I have dug up.

I have seen the following selling

*Kogan
*Dick Smith
*Becex

Can you recommend one listed or point me in a better direction?

From looking at their web site OnePlus does not appear to be selling its phones in Australia at the moment.

So, having myself bought one from Kogan - note that Dick Smith is just another name Kogan trades under - I wouldn't recommend you buy a OnePlus phone at all. It was a very nice phone. The price was good. But it was a grey import. So the only warranty and support was from Kogan, and when I had a problem the only way I could get it resolved was to throw away that 1 year old phone and buy another new phone from another company that sells an Australian model in Australia and supports it in Australia.

If it was a OnePlus made for Australia and sold in Australia I'd happily recommend it, even from Kogan.

    • I used to say upto $400 I would buy things without warranty, but I've since changed that to a $600 limit.
There are exceptions to the rule, but it generally keeps me out of trouble.

Companies that have to support local Aussie warranty do so knowing the Consumer Law is pretty stringent here, so not only are they more likely to give you a replacement or a refund, but they also try to ensure their products are higher quality.

The reason I would get a OnePlus 9 Pro is if you wanted a current flagship phone, that has good root/community support, but lacks a lot of useful things (flat screen, headphone jack, IrDa, etc etc). But it's a bitter pill when it is priced in the $1k category. I'm more interested in the Sony 5.2 and 5.3, or the Sony 1.3 but these are also expensive, and, no local warranty.

Why not go with a Pixel 6 or even a note 20 that is probably cheap now?

    • You could get her the S21 Ultra from bcex for $1049 or wait for one of the many many many Samsung / JB cash back deals.

I have been a long time OnePlus fan but I could not get myself to shell out ~$1500 (I was looking at the LE2123 model) on a grey import. I went with the Ultra when it was a Telstra day special and am very happy with my decision.

  • I've been keeping an eye on mymobile to buy one for myself. Their prices fluctuate a lot but they have a store in Qld so they're probably a safe purchase

I've been looking at buying one of these myself and note that the ones from Kogan and a few other AU resellers are the Chinese domestic model (LE2120).

It has limited bands compared to the global LE2123 version - this is important for some who are in areas with less than ideal reception

    Global Version LE2123
    Supported Bands :
    5G Bands 28/20/5/8/3/1/40/41/38/7/78/77
    LTE Bands B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/13/17/18/19/20/25/26/28/32/38/39/40/41/66
    3G/HSPA Bands 19/5/8/4/2/1

    Chinese Version LE2120
    Supported Bands :
    5G Bands 28/3/1/41/78/79
    LTE Bands B1/2/3/4/5/7/8/12/17/18/19/20/26/34/38/39/40/41
    3G/HSPA Bands 19/5/8/4/2/1

    • No band 28 on the Chinese variant! Blasphemy.
