How to Watch Free to Air from Fetch Mighty on TV Straight

Hi

I am interested in buying Fetch Mighty, mainly to record free to air programs when I am away.
I don't like to own two different remote controls (ie tv and Fetch) and I heard that Fetch remote control can be programmed to turn on TV.

So, my question is if there is a way to get to free to air channel straight when I turn on TV from Fetch remote control.

My guess is Press TV power on from Fetch remote -> change input to HDMI -> view Fetch what's on menu -> select Free to air channel. Is this correct?

For those to own Fetch mighty, is it worth buying one? and can it record free to airs without TV is on?

I'm happy to be wrong, but I think that Fetch Mighty is a PVR and will record anything you set it up to do. Your tv is really just a monitor for the box.

I don't record anything these days. Everything is available in some form of streaming, sometimes in advance of when it is broadcast on Free To Air.

I use a Vodafone TV box great little unit.. which gives us smarts for the TV, which doesn't..

We also record some free to air, but via our Panasonic bluray dvr.

We record so we can skip the adverts…

Lots of streamed stuff still has adverts, which we can't skip..

    • when you turn on tv, does it show Fetch main menu there or you need to change the input to HDMI to view Fetch?

The Fetch Mighty is a PVR.
You will connect your tv antenna to the Fetch box, set it up, then you can record whatever FTA programmes you want. You can even set it to record every episode of any show you choose.
Your Fetch box will be connected to your tv via HDMI (probably). If you set your tv to the HDMI input the Fetch is connected to, you don't need to worry about the tv again.
You can then set up your Fetch remote to control the tv - on/off and volume should be the only ones you really need.
When you turn on your tv it should automatically be on the Fetch HDMI input, you then control everything through the Fetch box - like changing channels, using Apps like Netflix, or watching your recorded shows.
    Hope that makes sense.

    • Mystery solved. Thank you. :)

Fetch remote can control your TVs power/vol input via IR

Does your TV remember the last input it was on? If so, just turn on the TV and BAM you'll be looking at the fetch TV interface displaying live TV.

  • You can also change the input on the TV using the Fetch remote.

    • A silly question. Can you record Netflix on Fetch Tv?

      • No. You cannot record anything from the FTA Apps (iview, 7plus, etc), nor the apps (Netflix, Youtube, etc). I'm not sure what benefit you would gain by recording Netflix on a Fetch box. I get the logic for a tablet, mobile as you can watch it outside the house without using mobile data, but it doesn't make sense for a fixed box like Fetch.

I've got two of the Fetch Mighty boxes and think they are great. The remotes can be programmed to control your TV power and volume. I just leave the TV on the Fetch input and never actually watch through the TV tuner. Up to 4 programs can be recorded at once. Pausing and rewinding live TV is useful. If I've recorded something in the front lounge room, I can watch it in the back family room.
If you buy it privately, be really careful that it was bought thru a retail outlet and not supplied by an internet provider such a Optus. The ISP ones are locked and you'll never get them transferred to your ownership. The refurbished ones that Fetch sell thru their eBay and website can be a better bargain.
