Bigger Screen or Better Panel?

Hi all,
I am in the market for a TV with a max budget of $2500. I am confused whether its better to go for a 75 incher with QLED (e.g. Samsung 75" Q60A 4K UHD QLED Smart TV) or get a 65 incher with mini Led. (e.g. Samsung 65" QN85A 4K UHD Neo QLED Smart TV)
Mainly will use it for 4k plex, streaming (Netflix, amazon) and occasional gaming.
What's the general recommendation here? Bigger size or better screen? The distance from TV to couch will be around 13 feet; so 75 shouldn't be too big for the room.
Will be going tomorrow to check the options at JB/HN but wouldn't mind some real-life feedback.

Thanks

  • Why not both? Also as most people say bigger not always better

    • Don't get mini leds 75inch for less than $3k

  • +1

I can't stand clouding so would probably go with the QN85A, but bigger is better. You'll have to decide for yourself when you see it at the shop. The clouding test would be a mostly black screen with small patches of bright colour in various spots.

  • I've seen my friend's 75" Q60A couple of days ago. If you watch normal SDR content with minimal dark scenes, its fine. But once you try to put anything HDR on it, it craps itself FAST. The panel is scrambling to change the brightness up and down and it's no very quick at doing so. It looks like an absolute mess.

The QN85A at that size has an IPS panel. I imagine it's native contrast is much lower,, but hopefully the dimming zones alleviate the issue, I haven't seen one myself tho.

At this price point, I would probably go for the 75" Sony X90J deal. It doesn't get too bright (according to RTINGS), but the local dimming should make the Q60A look like a joke. You also get 120hz if you care about that.

  • If the question was better panel, as in QN90A vs QN85A… well, I've already melted my brain over this, because of the panels, and if it really makes a diff… or even true about the changes to the Aussie market… https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/679757

However, the jump from QLED to Neo QLED is instantly evident when you see them in the store.
And is also why I am now focusing on mini LED over OLEDs for my personal setup (brightness/contrast priority, gaming is not).

    • Yes, I am guessing that's what's going to happen when I end up comparing QLED and Neo QLED side by side. Absolutely going to end up seeing a marked improvement in the latter, but then wonder should I just go for a 75incher though and compromise on the screen.

  • btw, the LG OLEDs are on sale at Myer atm
And Shopback has 10% at 11am today.

  • Better screen, you have to look at the thing a long time; you could always move the couch closer, but you can't adjust a bad viewing TV
