Fitbit Ionic Recall

Hi all,

We received an email regarding the recall of the Fitbit ionic. We applied for the refund but we only got a first email (still waiting for second one confirming refund and discount code).

Has anyone else applied for refund? Ionic now pretty much unusable (the watch stopped synchronising).

  • I am looking to buy a Apple Watch or Garmin this weekend. Once I am set up with a new device I will be applying to for the voluntary recall. This is the last straw for me with Fitbit products. I have been using Fitbits for close to 10 years and have not found them to be durable or reliable at all.

    • Hi,
I understand your frustration. My husband though loves Fitbit. We did get email but in any case refund takes 3-6 weeks.
I just ordered a sense for him, $270 plus 5 original bands and 1 year free Fitbit premium.
Still ask for the discount, you need to register. Code only works once. You can still grab the straps and subscription for free if you like. Good luck

      • The sense for that money plus the bands seems like a great deal! I bought mine with a crazy good AIA Vitality discount, the Ionic has been a decent device for 2 years at sub $100 purchase price. I just have terrible luck with the bands staying together and occasional system freezes etc.

        • Just ask for a refund and discount. For discount you get sense for $270 5 free bands and 1 year premium Fitbit

Husband went through 3 ionics in 2 years. He just jumped online and they sorted new replacement. I cannot complain about Fitbit warranty process.

      • I'm in the same boat as your husband… I was quite a fan of their fitness bands, but the last few generations have been duds.

My Charge 2 was amazing (for the time) and rock solid - the Charge 3 was a lemon, battery issues and software updates that had a habit or randomly bricking the devices. To their credit, the support was exceptional - my first had the battery issues, the second bricked, they replaced it out of warranty free both times - which was the only reason that I persisted so long.

I eventually upgraded to the Charge 3 which scratched badly almost immediately under normal usage.

I won't be upgrading to the Charge 4… I'll be going elsewhere. The fact that the Ionic has such a serious issue, just reinforces my decision.

        • Good luck choosing your next watch. I use Apple Watch and albeit not as good for fitness/sleep tracking as the Fitbit, I must say that it never breaks. I do use a silicone cover and I’m quite careful with it. Husband does the same with his Fitbit but unfortunately not as durable. He decided to continue with Fitbit, fingers crossed it’s a good choice.

    • Yeah durability is a problem. But their customer service, to be fair, are good in the sense that they offered replacements when I raised issues without too much fuss.

  • Dumb question. How much refund do I receive?

They know how much I paid for it?

    • No receipt. Should be $299 from reading around.

  • I'm also wondering how refund works? I chose to be refunded via visa/debit but they haven't asked for any of my bank details?

    • +1

You will get an email asking for the details

  • How much should the refund be in AUD? I've seen $299 however that looks to be the USD amount

    • I reckon will be $299 Australian

      • Nevertheless pretty shitty not telling customers how much they will get

    • Fibit:"We're offering a refund of $299 USD to Fitbit Ionic customers." For further information check the FAQ in this website https://help.fitbit.com/en/ionic.htm

  • We have 4 Fitbit iconics at our place, I've submitted all the paperwork. Hopefully it's 299 usd each.

Funny thing is none have been used in well over a year. As we now all run Huawei smart watches which run great on Huawei p30's or the pixel pro 6 fitbits just got to glitchy.

    • Hi, that's the first to hear that Huawei smart watch is better than Fibit. How did the refund process go?

  • +1

damn, I was still using my ionic, so I'm a tad annoyed. but 299USD + big discount on their store was good enough (especially considering I bought this for 150 second hand a few years ago). i got access to sense, versa3, and charge5. I'll be getting myself a sense, and a friend a sense, so it's nice they've allowed up to 5 devices. but the RRP on their site is so high the discounted price occasionally seen is pretty close to this special offer. I think I found some listings of sense on here for around 300 sometimes, and this is 270. the big difference is the free bands, which is nice because ive gone through 2 bands on my ionic.

I registered on their age and they deactivated the device from my account probably within 24 hours. they sent the code to access the discount store straight away, but refund is still 3-6 weeks away according to them.

the timing is a bit unfortunate, there are rumours of pixel watch coming soon, and fitbit will probably be refreshing their lineup aug/sep. i get a bit of use out of my smartwatch, so dont really want to wait 6 months.

    • Exactly our thoughts! You could have waited I believe, but then you don’t want to risk getting burns.

    • did you need to login to use the code??

      • I did, but I'm not sure if it's definitely required to access store. I imagine it is, but not sure.

  • Hi All

I have discount codes for anyone wanting Fitbit devices. The two code is only valid for 90 days from today (09/03/2022) and only use once at time of applying the code. So PM if you're interested!

    The offer:

Up to 5 free accessory bands–1 for each device you order
1 Fitbit Premium subscription for a full year (new members only)
    Free expedited shipping (where available)

This code only works once. You must purchase all devices, accessories, and services in the same transaction. To take advantage of this offer, visit our store page and select the store for your country.

Enter your access code to enter the store: xxxx.
At checkout, enter your shipping code in the Promo code box: xxxx

As a reminder, your codes expires after 90 days.

NB I haven't tried using the code, so not sure if my account login is required. Others who have used the code please advise?

    • I think they are linked to your account. Also you can order the bands totally for free and also free Fitbit premium for 1 year so why not grab those and then sell the bands?

    • Hi, can you please pm me a code if still available? Thanks.

    • Hey if you still have a code that would be fantastic - I'm looking for a Fitbit!

  • Anyone got the refund through in their PayPal yet?

    • No, still waiting too. Been nearly 4 weeks since I applied

  • Received email update and also $309USD in to my PayPal this morning.

    • Out of interest, what date did you submit your claim? Still nothing in my account and I submitted on 10th March…

      • Me too! $397 in Aussie happy days

      • 5th of March.

  • Wish I had chosen PayPal. Didn't realise choosing Visa would be a virtual gift card.

    • Yes, the PayPal refund is quicker. Husband applied on the same day (card) and still no refund. I got refunded to PayPal yesterday

      • I received the refund but it's in the form of a Visa virtual gift card. I thought it was going to be bank deposit. Could have sworn that was the other option.

        • How do you use it? Online shopping?

  • +1

Pretty much. But if you want to purchase something that costs more than what's on the card then you can't use it, whereas with Paypal I could've just put put the money in my bank account.

  • So I dug out my old Fitbit from a pile of outdated tech, hooked it up to the app, and got a notification about a recall. I'm curious, do you think the recall program is still going on?

    • Yes, most likely. Just apply and see what happens.
