What's The Best Value Data Only Plan on The Telstra Network

What is the cheapest data only plan on the Telstra network? We've just moved somewhere semi rural and mobile internet is the only internet option here. Telstra is the only provider to get decent signal. Currently I have been tethering from my phone but I have burned through my 50GB of data in 3 weeks and my partner has used about 12GB of theirs. I start back at my day job working remotely in about a week which will also increase our internet usage. I'm guessing we will need at least 100GB a month.

I have seen the current JBHIFI offer but I am not sure if that's worth it when we'd need to buy a mobile router separately or if we're better off going through Telstra directly on a plan that includes a device or one of the other providers like Boost or Aldi mobile.

You could buy a bunch of these $10 for 40GB sims or if you want something longer term the $85/month 400GB plan looks the best. Are you sure you can't get wireless NBN though? I haven't found Telstra 4G to be that great in areas with patchy reception.

  • 5G Home Internet if you're in the coverage area

If you are in an area that only gets Telstra reception I would be very surprised if it had 5G.

Agreed, but still worth checking (and re-checking in the future as the 5G coverage area grows).

    • Sadly we are not. Coverage map says we should get 5G here but we don't and 5G home internet isn't available.

  • My guess would be Belong,

People often sell belong data as cheap as like 40c a GB on classified adds, or other places.

But that way you'll be paying 2 times (1 x Belong monthly fee of like $10-15 a month + Extra Data (receiving as a gift) from people selling it), e.g. 100 GB @40c/GB would be $40 just for data, then you'll have to factor in the cost of your monthly belong plan like $10 i think cheapest. (i may be wrong)

    • Belong doesn't use the full Telstra network though, only Boost and Telstra have the full network. It makes a big difference to the total area covered, especially in regional areas.

Have you looked at NBN? If you can't get NBN maybe look into starlink

Looked at both and NBN isn't available and Starling has a large up front equipment cost ($800 or so).
