Cracked Touchscreen Bottom Corner Only on Yoga 370, Can I Limit Further Damage?

Hi all, this crack isn't affecting functionality and wondering if there is an alternative to a screen replacement by just treating the crack so it won't spread further.

Here is the crack: https://photos.app.goo.gl/yjkq7WysHs1cuSgm6

Is there some technique via glue or a section of a screen protector that could stop this crack from spreading or doI just have to pony up for a replacement screen?

thanks.

    You could try googling this

    Phone screen crack filler

There are various products at different prices that are listed, with "demos" or how to use - Your choice

Other options you can google is superglue/cracked screen, with various youtube videos showing you how.

At least as you say the screen works, and it looks like its just the glass is affected not the LCD or touch sensors.

    Risky click for the day?

Cut a rectangular piece of clear packing tape over it to prevent further pieces falling out or cutting your fingers.

Also, clean your laptop. I'm sorry but that is disgusting. My crack is cleaner than your laptop.

    • lol, yeah, this is my wife's laptop … and you should see the kitchen!

she's a savage with technology, hence why I would prefer to fix than provide something new, shiny and expensive.

  • A screen protector may help limit the damage and keep dirt and moisture out for a while but in the end you'll have to replace the screen as it gets worse.

  • had the same issue with a kids chromebook. Was replaced under warranty, but i'm assuming its going to happen again at some time in the future.
Those lenovo hinges are very poorly designed.

Only way i could see you stopping it getting worse is to actually re-attach the hing to the screen frame again (which involves opening it all up, gluing or somehow attaching the hinge to the plastic screen back and then re-assembling)… doubt anything else will be stronger than the hinge/lever force being applied when opening the screen

Funny you say that….. What model Lenovo chromebook?

I've got a flex 5 and its had 4 hinge repairs so far, just keeps cracking for no reason at all. Both sides now.

      • I've got a flex 5

        yep, that one.
Right hinge broke and they repaired under warranty.

have all those repairs been under warranty?

        • Thought it might have been a flex 5. Yes the right hinge broke on me first badly, taking the screen out with it. Then it came back from repair, a few days later the left hinge cracked, then it came back, and the plastic near the left hinge cracked again, so back it went again.

Now a few months after that, the left hinge has broken the plastic again and popped the screen out. So its back again being repaired.

I'm thinking of just selling it and buying something else. Clearly there is a issue with the hinges on this unit that Lenovo can't fix!

Thankfully all the repairs had been under warranty, but that is out pretty much over after this repair unless I start jumping up and down about ACL.

          • @JimmyF: wow, unlucky streak
This kids one goes to and from school, so im expecting it to fail again, but its lasted ~6 months since the last repair (and is outside warranty now).

Its a great chromebook for what I paid (deal + vouchers at the time), meaning a screen replacement $ is about the same price as the laptop, so if it dies, its unlikely to be replaced by something anywhere near as good a value.

            • @SBOB: I had a good run for about 9 months then it all fell apart on me. Its about 15 months old now. I basically said to Lenovo it was only repaired 3 months ago (days before the warranty ran out) and the same fault has happened again, not good enough. So they accepted it for repair. I don't expect to get another repair out of them unless I really jump up and down. So thinking of selling it while it is good.

Yes I got it for a great price a while ago too. Its a great unit other than the crappy hinges!

Thats my problem too. Everyone is so costly!!

Going by the number of repairs and assuming you haven't mistreated the device you'd have every right to a refund under ACL in my opinion - sounds like a design flaw.

            • @Chandler:

assuming you haven't mistreated the device

Its clearly a design flaw, lots of people on the net with the same issue, but I'm kinda stuck between what to get next as a replacement. I was hoping by now they resolved the issue, but seems like that isn't going to happen.

I might just sell it and buy something else. Its not worth the hassle. I've spent way too much time on this already.
