Recommendations for a Medium Hatch - Budget $18k - $22k

I got a Hyundai i30 2013 auto hatch with 140k on the clock. Looking to update it with a low kms <40k, 2019 +. Possibles could be Auto Hyundai i30 hatch, Kia Cerato hatch petrol

Q1) What other reliable / value for money cars do you recommend around the $20k mark
Q2) What do you think a new Hyundai or Kia could be negotiated for
Q3) Which state has the cheapest cars, possibly auctions

Is there anything wrong with the current one? If not, keep driving for longer. Used car sales prices are through the roof and new cars have a lengthy wait

I don't see it changing in the next two years. Production won't get back in a long time. And even then demand is still too high.

  • Not much of an upgrade there and there is no reason to buy another car with current crazy 2nd hand prices

  • That still seems like a perfectly good car ?? I would run it into the ground and use the savings elsewhere, crazy people willing to pay for a new car with RRP and second hand pricing has gone way up. I guess some people need new toys

  • Damn! I would pay 10K for your car if you were in Adelaide. I am driving one of the worst lemons, Astra TS 2002, with over 176K on the clock. The AC doesn't work, all four tyres are long overdue for change, and the timing belt with the water pump need to be changed at 180K. The body is about to fall apart and don't even get me started with the paint. If your current vehicle doesn't have major issue(s) then keep it for a couple more years until this chip shortage gets sorted out.

Hardly a lemon if it's lasted 176k km.

      • Yeah. Their reputation is down the gutter though. Also, I left out that two months after I bought it (as a second hand back in January 2010, with 92K), it a had a major engine problem that cost me over $1500 to fix, so it wasn't a smooth sailing. That's one of the reasons why I wanted to keep it until it falls apart.

    • It's just been driving without any problems all this time.
Last month I replaced the Crankshaft Position Sensor cost me $16 ouch!!
I do a filter & oil change once a year
I haven't been to a mechanic for a very long time.

  • Don’t upgrade unless you need a different type of vehicle. Keep the current one for at least another 60,000km.
